Irish neutrality is an area that has long been mis understood and mis-interpreted. The majority of people are very opinionated but know very little on the subject. Our Government has made decisions that will affect us without any referendum or regard for public opinion. But were we ever really neutral? The time has come for the Irish people to make a decision. read full story / add a comment

Members of FEIC - Foyle Ethical Investment Campaign, PANA, Amnesty Galway Volunteers, Gluaiseacht and Na Cosantóirí Síochána, the Peace Network joined forces at Shannon, to push once more for the vindication and protection of our constitutional rights to voice our dissent at the ongoing Government facilitation of crimes against humanity at Shannon Airport. Despite anticipated harassment by Gardaí and Airport Police who cooperated in an aggressive assault to grab and steal our banners, we stood our ground, kept hold of our property and insisted on our rights to stay put. For the next few hours we spoke to many interested local and international journeymakers and visitors who were happy to take and wear the 'black shamrock' badges in solidarity with us, the Iraqi people, the tortured and the dead. Bearing in mind the recent ‘fly in protest’ visit of the Peace And Neutrality Alliance of Independant TD's and Senators to Shannon and their announcement of future plans for similar actions, and considering the recent instructions from the DPP directing Shannon Gardaí to withdraw all charges against Cosantóirí Síochána activists arrested for a banner protest on the restaurant balcony at Shannon in September 2005, we invite PANA and all other peace activists to join us at Shannon in further asserting and demanding the defence and protection of our rights to peaceful assembly and protest under Article 40 of Bunreacht na hEireann, the Irish Constitution. read full story / add a comment

It has been long observed that people for some reason on their non-banking days readily absorb shite about Dangerous Places, Famous People, Sensible Saving Options, Holidays, Interesting facts, Sport results, Media, gardening and health as well looking ahead at “democratic evolution” and looking back at "how history was made". in this edition, the first since the "Mozart Edition" of Jan. 8, I will touch briefly on the three years since the Iraq war, Whats happening in France on the class politics front and in Peru and Italy on the lead-up to their general elections next month, and a even shorter mention of the Zapatista's other campaign in Mexico. & a bit of religiosity too. read full story / add a comment

Now with Hamas’ electoral gains in the Palestinian elections, Israel, from a position of strength, can decide if it wants to inflict an economic blockade on the West Bank and Gaza. “It's like an appointment with a dietician. The Palestinians will get a lot thinner, but won't die,” was how top Israeli government adviser Dov Weissglas recently described how an intensification of a blockade could affect ordinary Palestinians. see David Lynch in Daily Ireland http://dailyireland.televisual.co.uk/home.tvt?_ticket=O...opp=1 read full story / add a comment

The PDs' announcement of a plan to move Dublin Port comes at an interesting time, when the Dublin Port Tunnel (an integral part of the expansion plan implemented by the Dublin Port Authority) is nearing completion. This article reveals that the idea to relocate the Port is not an original creation of the PDs': in fact it goes back to 1990. But why, in spite of a set of logical reasons in favour of the move, was the plan put on the back burner in favour of the construction of the multi-million Port Tunnel and minor upgrades to the port facilities? read full story / add a comment

Trinity College Dublin has ordered the seizure and destruction of a student magazine called Piranha! because it used what the College authorities say is “offensive language” in an article about Muslim reaction to the cartoons depicting "the Prophet Muhammad". “Irish people should know that this type of racism is not funny and in 2006 it is just not acceptable,. Satirical magazines sometimes argue that they are causing debate on issues by writing articles from a certain point of view, but in this case that argument doesn’t hold water.” Sheikh Dr Shaheed Satardien read full story / add a comment

A well dressed male in his fifties, dressed in a tweed sports jacket and trousers, wearing a hunting or fishing hat, which seemed outlandisly old-fashioned stalked me from the bank of ireland through the Swan Centre , except that I only became aware that he was doing this when I got to the most mundane of places, the fish counter. The place to discuss the price of fish and smile in to your eyes, to grab your hand and hit on you. Fair enough, let go my hand. I don't want to go for a coffee, in fact I have an appointment. The grip on my hand got harder and he kept eye-contact as he ground my ring into the bone of my finger. There we are standing in a crowded shop in broad daylight and he is getting his jollies by studying minutely the change in my face from friendliness, to awareness,to fear. He wants to capture that and take it home with him.I ripped my hand away and continued shopping, he followed me through three aisles. Why didn't I shout, or land him on the floor or ask for help? I still don't know the answer to the question. I reported it to the manageress , who gave a descrition to security guy, who stood watching me pack up and walked me to the door. He tells me to get a cup of tea and come back . They will pull the cctv. Thanks security guy. I returned with a friend an hour later. I haven't heard anything since. I suppose that it looked almost mundane on the footage. read full story / add a comment
