In the morning of June 14, 2001, a European Summit began in Sweden, in the city of Gothenburg. Maarten Blok (a 23 year old) had arrived in the city the previous night and had the bad luck to have chosen as a place to sleep, a school provided by the city council which on that morning was surrounded by the police for a mass arrest of all the people (more than 450) who happened to be in that place at that time. He was arrested and deported to the Netherlands. read full story / add a comment

Sitting here in Galway today reading the newswire, i can hear military jets (presumably US) flying overhead in preparation for the Salthill Airshow. For some people in certain parts of our world that sound means imminent and indiscriminate injury or death. For us its just a fun day out down in Salthill, naked militarism? no its just Entertainment!. Once more we are faced with the stark contrast between Reality and the life that we actually lead here ...in cloud cuckoo land. Use the airshow to imagine the terror read full story / add a comment

JULY 1, 2004 Washington, DC—A group calling themselves the Party Liberation Front (PLF) took over the lobby of the World Bank Headquarters this morning and threw a party to “celebrate” the 60th birthday of the World Bank and the success of its global capitalist agenda. 60 years ago finance leaders from the major world powers met in Bretton Woods, NH to establish the World Bank and IMF. Since then wealthy elites in the US and elsewhere have reaped billions of dollars from countries forced to abide by World Bank policies. read full story / add a comment

Delaying Bush's departure by a half-hour was a victory for the peace-lovers in the Mid-West. The Irish military's involvement, using APCs and Scorpion tanks, in attempting to put us off our stride was a shame and it failed to work for the securocrats. Short of shelling us (isn't that what they do) they were bound to fail. Victory for the Peaceniks! - Henry Allen read full story / add a comment
