galway / miscellaneous / press release Wednesday April 28, 2004 21:34 by shaolin
A cunning trap has been set ahead of Bertie Ahern's visit to National University of Ireland, Galway tomorrow. Members of Galway Grassroots, Galway Alliance Against War and the Irish centre for Human Rights hope to ensnare the wily Taoiseach, and charge him with war crimes. A cage baited with large bulging brown envelopes that have euro signs drawn on them has been erected near the Aula Maxima. A Guantanamo Bay style prison uniform has also been prepared, and we are confident that this will be sufficient to restrain Ahern, though we expect him to put up a vicious fight. Electrical cattle prods may also have to be employed to subdue an Taoiseach. So, God-willing, we'll have the blighter in custody and ready for trial tomorrow afternoon. PS: Please don't forewarn him or his security of this trap, as then he would surely evade us. read full story / add a comment

During heated exchanges in the Dail yesterday, Bertie Ahern called on Joe Higgins of the Socialist Party to ask anarchists not to travel to Dublin. Deputy Higgins refused the request. What planet is Ahern on if he thinks anarchists will bow down to Higgins' request! read full story / add a comment

national / summit mobilisations / opinion/analysis Wednesday April 28, 2004 14:33 by Rory Hearne
Fellow activists, Since the Zapatista declaration in 1994 and the French public sector workers strike in 1995 we have witnessed and taken part in a new social movement . The movement has grown exponentially and deepened from the 60,000 that shut down the WTO in Seattle 1999 to the millions that marched across the globe on February 15th last year. Our strength has been our unity together in our common outrage and desire to change this incredibly corrupt and unequal society. We are united in our desires for a world without war a world where the resources currently spent on military will be spent on schools and hospitals, a world without borders where all immigrants are welcome and a world without poverty. read full story / add a comment

This is a (hurried) summary and translation of what I’ve picked up from indymedia Poland and some mainstream Polish press (i.e. web) coverage for the benefit of non-Polish speakers, though some of the http://poland.indymedia.org/pl articles have English translations too. read full story / add a comment |
