"The anti-war demonstration which takes place in Dublin today (March 20), marking the first anniversary of the illegal Anglo\US invasion of Iraq, provides the Irish people with a perfect opportunity to express their complete rejection of the 26 County Administration's support for the continued illegal Anglo\US occupation of Iraq, and in particular Brian Cowen's remarks on Thursday (March 18) pledging the continued use of Shannon by US warplanes. Such remarks only serve to highlight the arrogance of an administration which has chosen to ignore the vast majority of the Irish people, who have clearly expressed their opposition to the Anglo\US invasion and occupation of Iraq, made clear by the presence of 200.000 people on the streets of Dublin in February of last year." read full story / add a comment

Flowers and wreath were laid at Shannon airport by peace activists as an act of atonement for the innocent people killed in Iraq over the past year. We, the Irish people helped to kill up to 10,000 civilians and up to 20,000 Iraqi conscripts by allowing the United States to use Shannon airport as its main forward airbase. We did this for money. read full story / add a comment

More than 200 people marched through Belfast's Royal Avenue this afternoon on the 1st Anniversary of the US led invasion of Iraq. Speakers from the Firebrigades Union, the Belfast Islamic Centre, the representative of the Basque Community and Sinn Féin all called for the US lead coalition troops to withdraw from Iraq immediately and allow the people of Iraq to determine their own affairs. Speakers accused Bush, Blair and other leaders of misleading and ignoring world opinion and destabilising Iraq, the Middle East and indeed the world. An earlier protest in West Belfast highlighting recent killings, one by a Spanish police officer, in the Basque Country, held a solidarity feeder march to join the main anti war demo. Other groups in attendance were the SWP, the SP, the CP, Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Ógra Shinn Féin, Belfast Anarchists, as well as many non alligned individuals. read full story / add a comment

Report by Alois Vincenzo: With just a few hours' notice of the Wexford stop on Justin Barrett's 'Public Information Tour', I had had little time to prepare slurs or even to reacquaint myself with the politics of Ireland's most notorious far-right wannabe. I arrived at the talk venue fearing raised eyebrows at what I supposed might seem my lefty youth appearance; unshaven and bedraggled from my day's work I sauntered into the fashionable quay-side hotel foyer, to be met by the derisive chuckle of the young worker on the desk when I enquired which way to the Barrett talk. Embarassing but reassuring. read full story / add a comment
