Yesterday, activists from the Irish Centre for Human Rights, NUI Galway, Permanent Revolution, Free Palestine Campaign, ably aided, abetted and filmed by students from the Huston School of Film & Digital Media did a nine hour slog in Shop street for the raytheon 9 and Palestine. After their info stall outside Lynch's castle two SWP activists joined us for a while in solidarity with their SWP colleagues in the raytheon 9 whose trial commences in Belfast this coming Tuesday or Wednesday, see http://www.indymedia.ie/article/87594 read full story / add a comment

Last weekend, Belfast was graced with the presence of two strong Palestinian activists; George Rishmawi and Iyad Bornat (also spelled Eyad Burnat), the screening of Iyad's powerful documentary: Bil'in Against the Wall http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy8-oxnZQJU in the Falls Road Cultural Center last Friday night and George's public address at the Belfast May Day Rally on Saturday.
The documentary is a powerful indictment of Israel and its use of murderous violence by its Occupation Army in beleaguered Bil'in against peaceful protestors to snuff out dissent against the expropriation of Palestinian land for the building of "settlements" for Jews only colonists.
Au fait with the action of the raytheon 9 in Derry, George Rishmawi and Iyad Bornat, through the good offices of Kathleen O'Connell (IPSC) sought and found Eamonn McCann at the rally to express solidarity with the 9 and Pitstop Ploughshare success at their forthcoming trial.

For those not living in Derry, it has been hard to find out what is happening in relation to the trial of the raytheon 9. The trial process is dragging on in a way that is very unfair to the defendants, their families, and the Derry Anti War Coalition (DAWC). The Nine are charged with affray and criminal damage and, if found guilty, could face long prison sentences. read full story / add a comment

The raytheon 9 appeared in court again this morning. Their lawyers got an indication that the state was ready to proceed. The earlier charge of 'aggravated burglary', a scheduled offence under the Terrorism Act, will not be pursued. Instead, the charges are those of 'affray', and two counts of 'criminal damage'. The case will be heard before a jury at the Crown Court in Derry, but not before the autumn.
The next stage is a Preliminary Enquiry, at which the Prosecution present the charges to be pursued and outline the evidence. This will be on Thursday 5 June 2007, at Bishop Street Courthouse in Derry.
The Derry Anti War Coalition is organising a mass rally outside the courthouse on that day, calling for the charges to be dropped and urge everyone to begin making plans to come to Derry for that day . read full story / add a comment

On a bright sunny Christmas morning, the festive community of Yeppoon on the Central Queensland coast of Australia arose to greet their day in joy and gladness, opening presents and family time together. Not so for many homes across this nation and indeed across the world as the reminders of missing loved ones taken in the grip of war that has ripped a gaping wound in the hearts of hundreds and thousands of families this Advent season. I sat alone in a peace vigil where I boycotted Christmas and Boxing day to remember those families, and those serving in this war-madness or in gaols. read full story / add a comment
Vertex Aerospace LLC, formerly raytheon Aerospace LLC, was acquired by Veritas Capital, a private equity investment firm, in 2001. The company changed its name from raytheon Aerospace LLC in June 2003, but raytheon Company (its former parent) retains about a quarter of the company.
Vertex Aerospace LLC has its headquarters in Madison, Miss. The company is considered one of the leaders in aviation and aerospace technical services, and its 6,300 employees operate in 42 states and 32 countries. About 95 percent of its sales are for the U.S. government, and its annual 2001 sales totaled about $500 million.
From 1997 to 2002, Vertex Aerospace (then raytheon Aerospace) received around $2.1 billion in U.S. government contracts.
Former parent raytheon, which maintains an interest in Vertex Aerospace, had more than 5,300 contracts with the U.S. government from 1990 through 2002 worth nearly $58.5 billion.
