éirígí, the newly formed Socialist Republican campaigns group, launched it’s ‘Reclaim the Republic/Athshealbhaígí an Phoblacht’ campaign over the course of last weekend. The campaign aims to bring the message of 1916 to the people and trigger a debate about the nature of modern day Ireland and how it compares to the Ireland envisioned in the Proclamation of the Irish Republic. In attempting to make this a reality, éirígí has begun to distribute thousands of full colour poster-size copies of the Proclamation to the citizens of Dublin on a not for profit basis. Over the course of the weekend éirígí activists distributed hundreds of copies of the Proclamation in various location across the city, including, Tallaght, Crumlin, Walkinstown, Drumcondra, Ballybough and the City Centre. éirígí activists will continue to distribute these posters over the coming weeks and months. Any donations received will be used to cover the cost of printing additional posters for further distribution. In this way éirígí hopes to ensure that the Proclamation will hang with pride in homes, workplaces and schools across the city. read full story / add a comment

A meeting, organised as part of Galway's first ever Basque Week, was held on Wednesday. Young republicans and Basque ex-pats discussed ETA's recent ceasefire, and the Basque Left-Abertzale's peace initiative. Topics such as political prisoner's issues and the prevalence of political policing and harassment also came up. read full story / add a comment

It is perhaps the ultimate struggle for many people. A decision that would divide many to the very core. Usually many people would be happy seeing people throw stuff at McDowell thinking he deserves everything he gets. But who do they support when it is Anti-Gay Catholic extremists. To coincide with the anniversary of the 6 Day war and their expulsion of 300,000 Palestinians, the Israeli government is sponsoring the writer A.B. Yehoshua to tour the British Isles. On Tuesday, June 6th he is arriving in Dublin. Here, disgracefully, the Irish Writer’s Centre on Parnell Street has provided a venue for this deeply controversial writer and his official Israeli backers. read full story / add a comment
