The Irish media has not been objective in its coverage of the killing of an Irish man in Santa Cruz Bolivia last week. By choosing to largely critique the left wing Government of Evo Morales, they have played into the hands of a racist elite in Santa Cruz determind to impede the process of social change in this country. read full story / add a comment

The Visteon occupations show that we are far from apathetic when it comes to defending our jobs, wages and standard of living. Workers began occupying the Finaghy plant on March 31st, after administrators announced the loss of around 600 jobs at Visteon/Ford plants at Belfast, Basildon and Enfield in England. Davy McMurray, from the Unite trade union, said the way the job cuts were announced was "brutal." Workers were given six minutes notice of their sackings, being treated like mere commodities to be bought and sold, then discarded by our bosses when necessary. read full story / add a comment

Congratulations to the Drivers from Clontarf and Harristown Garages for resisting the savage cuts to Dublin Bus Services, which will severely impact on passengers like myself. Hopefully the other Dublin Bus Garages will join in the Strike in the next day or two. Shame on the 'Unions' (SIPTU and NBRU) for agreeing to these draconian cuts, and for forcing Dublin Bus Workers to accept these cuts. This slashing of Dublin Bus Services will hit the poor, the old and the disabled the worst. To use the infamous phrase that Fianna Fáil used to win the 1987 General Election, and which they then tore up as soon as they got into power: "Cuts Hit the Old, the Sick and the Handicapped!" read full story / add a comment

If waged employees today do practically all real work, then the capitalist has no role other than collecting dividends, living the high life, and gambling on the Stock Exchange. The big banks, all of which are now kept afloat with our tax money, and most of which are now majority state-owned, are still paying massive “bonuses” to their top people. read full story / add a comment

Following a cowardly and vicious attack in the dead of night by Shell mercenaries on Willie Corduff in the early hours of Thursday 23rd April 2009, members of the Erris community assisted by national supporters opposed to the Shell Corrib Gas Project, united at 3pm on Sunday 26th April to rid the Glengad beach and cliffs of Shell nets. Nets covering mounds of rubble on the Shell site at Glengad were removed also, as Shell security retreated from their usual positions on top of the cliff and inside the perimeter fence surrounding the site. The fence was cut open by local residents who proceeded to remove and shred the nets before carrying them to the gates of the Shell site which was being guarded by quite a large force of Gardaí. read full story / add a comment |
