the 23rd of May, the RTE news broadcast caught my eye for a variety of reasons. Perhaps it was name of the barrister at law, Paul Anthony Mc Dermott explaining to RTE legal affairs editor Mary Wilson, what had occured at yesterday's Supreme Court ruling..... http://www.rte.ie/news/2006/0523/sex.html Or maybe it was how Bertie Ahern said sorry for calling someone a thief and how Deputy Rabitte looked at him.... Ógra Shinn Féin have written to An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern demanding a meeting regarding the issue of suicide prevention. The youth group have also written to minister for health and Children, Mary Harney TD and British Direct rule minister Responsible for health Paul Goggins MP requesting similar meetings. The meetings will be a part of their suicide prevention campaign which was launched at the Ógra Shinn Féin national congress in February. read full story / add a comment

The Unmanageables held a Mourning Tea at the Irish Aviation Department this morning as part of the International Womens Day for Disarmament. Veils were worn in mourning for the lives lost to War. The location was chosen by the Women to symbolise our disgust at the Irish Aviation Authority's facilitation of the continued illegal war in Iraq, the war in Afghanistan. Blood on our hands symbolises our culpability in war and rendition flights. We say Our Government is not mandated to utilise Shannon in such a manner. Lady Unmanageable say's "Out Damn Bertie ! US Navy’s most senior legal official, Dr Albert Moro, says the US administration is guilty of war crimes over the use of torture at Guantanamo Bay. The current Irish government by extension is also guilty of war-crimes by facilitating CIA ‘rendition programmes’ and refusing to search CIA planes carrying people to torture sites. read full story / add a comment

As of last year the Workers Solidarity Movement decided to start publishing reports about our national conferences. This report is for the recent Spring 2006 conference held in Dublin. National conferences take place every six months and are the prime decision making body for the organisation.
