Some 40 people took part this lunchtime in the march from the top of Grafton street to the Greek embassy as part of the International Day of Resistance and Solidarity. Leaflets proclaiming that ;Our lives do not belong to the state' were distributed and the banners unfurled. On arrival at the Greek embassy we observed that the frontage had been splattered with red paint and at least one window had been broken sometime previously. Yesterday, in the relentless resistance against the construction of the Annexation Wall and the illegal Israeli colonising “settlements” of Kfar Rut, Shilta, Mattityahu, Makkabim, Hashmonaim, Lapid, Modi’in Illit (Qiryat Sefer) and Menora on the expropriated Palestinian lands of Bil’in and Saffa, villagers from Bil’in, their numbers augmented by Internationals and Israeli Anarchists Against the Wall marched, as they have done for the past four years after Friday prayers, in protest to the Wall. read full story / add a comment

Samir Adil, leader of the Iraq Freedom Congress (IFC) was among those injured in an indiscriminate terror bombing of a restraunt in Kirkurk on Friday, 11 December. 55 people were killed and 100 were wounded. Everyone knows that an Iraqi journalist threw his shoes at GW Bush in Bagdhad in December 2008. It's a story which got its global media coverage with predictable attitudes and spin & could easily be forgotten, were it not for a few factoids & considerations as well as precedents. Which I'd like to share with people here without going into too much pseudo-analytic expertise. It's all about how shoe tossing was immediately explained to "us" as having resonance with muslims in general and Iraqi's in particular. read full story / add a comment
