clare / anti-war / imperialism / news report Saturday December 19, 2009 10:42 by RSF
The very idea that the future of Shannon Airport should be dependent on American conflict around the world is the latest U turn from the Green Party in Clare, a spokesman for Republican Sinn Fein said today. Paddy Kenneally from Crusheen, a party spokesman in North Clare said that the latest statement by the Green Party Councillor Brian Meany in relation to the future of Shannon Airport is an insult to all the Irish people who have campaigned against imperialism and American military expansionism. To say that more American troop carrying planes should transit Shannon Airport and that the Airport should go after this business is an appalling statement to make. read full story / add a comment

With so much attention being focused on the cuts to social welfare and public sector pay the little matter of the taxpayer funding of political parties has been neglected. Hard as it is to believe the budget of all the Leinster House parties was untouched in Lenihans cutback free-for-all. "Those regimes that break the rules must be held accountable. Sanctions must exact a real price. Intransigence must be met with increased pressure" : When Obama opined those sweet words during his acceptance speech of the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, they seemed to be crafted with Israel in mind, but not a whit, just another Orwellian baa from the wolf dressed in sheep's clothing, yet more Prozac to keep us standing idly by in a soothing semantic haze marvelling at the Imperor's new clothes and his committment for exacting a "real price" for Iran's pursuit of nuclear power for peaceful purposes - nuclear "obliteration" perhaps.?
