The non-aligned nations of the UN have opened what they hope will be a key note summit. & the venue brings them back to the home of their main instigator Fidel Castro. For news-readers presently swamped with notions of "clashes of civilisation" and the hegemony of Capitalism in all its forms (from neo-liberal through neo-conservative right up to third way Blairism and all the way down to PD celtic tigerism) the list of speakers & leaders is quite thought provoking, more so when one sees photos of them hugging and kissing & behaving like little girlies for the camaras. Iran's Mahmood, Ahmadinezhad - Venezuela's Hugo Chavez. Zimbabwe's Richard Mugabe - Alexander Lukashenko of Belorus Evo Morales of Bolivia - & giving his first speech to an international conference as acting head of state (& the only autistic to ever have held such office) Raul Castro. read full story / add a comment

Malcolm X once said, "I've had enough of someone else's propaganda. I'm for truth, no matter who tells it. I'm for justice, no matter who it's for or against. I'm a human being first and foremost, and as such I am for whoever and whatever benefits humanity as a whole." With those inspirational words of guidance in mind, Ógra Shinn Féin have launched a new blog spot at: http://ograshinnfein.blogspot.com/ The Ógra SF blogspot will be used to keep activists, supporters and the public updated with Ógra news, politics and upcoming events. One Race the Human Race Part I: The Political Economy of Genocide Documentary (Duration 42 mins) This short film by no means tries to give a what, when, where, who and how analysis of the conflict taking place in the Lebanon, Palestine and Israeli (Iraq). It is a collection of mostly images and video taken off various Indymedia sites around the world and merged together to give an incomplete and brief snap shot montage sequence of the consequences of state violence and apathy to the suffering of human beings for narrow selfish political reasons. Dedicated to IMC journalists in Lebanon, Palestine and Israel. read full story / add a comment

'Peak oil' is a term that has become almost mainstream by now- basically it signals the end of cheap oil. Most of us will have heard this already and as oil prices increase almost every month at this stage the government is finally waking up to the fact. Or is it? Recently in the Irish Times Marc Coleman, Economics Editor wrote that Brian Cowen said 'The government had NO contingency plan to deal with the prospect of a SEVERE INCREASE in oil prices' . Now, usually politicians 'put a brave face on' when dealing with times of crisis- it is rare indeed that someone in Cowen's position is so forthright, yet there we have it in black and white- the government has plainly admitted that we are on our own- we cannot rely on the government to help us through the imminent energy crisis that now faces us. read full story / add a comment
