With so much attention being focused on the cuts to social welfare and public sector pay the little matter of the taxpayer funding of political parties has been neglected. Hard as it is to believe the budget of all the Leinster House parties was untouched in Lenihans cutback free-for-all. The question must now be answered of all the parties - will you continue to take your full allocation of taxpayers money while the poor go hungry? read full story / add a comment

Intransigence must be met with increased pressure" : When Obama opined those sweet words during his acceptance speech of the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, they seemed to be crafted with Israel in mind, but not a whit, just another Orwellian baa from the wolf dressed in sheep's clothing, yet more Prozac to keep us standing idly by in a soothing semantic haze marvelling at the Imperor's new clothes and his committment for exacting a "real price" for Iran's pursuit of nuclear power for peaceful purposes - nuclear "obliteration" perhaps.? The Irish Government is failing children with mental health difficulties. Urgent reform of the mental health system for children and young people under 18 years is desperately needed. In response, the Children’s Rights Alliance and Amnesty International Ireland have brought together 38 NGOs to form the Children’s Mental Health Coalition. The newly formed Coalition is today launching a manifesto and website www.childrensmentalhealth.ie to demand action from the Government. read full story / add a comment

The Government in Nepal is set for stormy weather in the coming days as the Maoists declare autonomous states despite protest from the leading party. As the country tries to hammer out a constitution and introduce some long-awaited stability, ordinary citizens are worried about rising tension and continuing strikes. read full story / add a comment

The Minister for the Environment Mr. John Gormley was today urged to immediately suspend the licence he granted earlier in the autumn to the Ward Union Stag Hunt following a serious incident last Friday when a deer being hunted by the Ward Union was chased onto the main road between Ashbourne and Slane. The deer, which was hit by an on-coming Mercedes, was seriously injured and had to be put down at the scene. It had been seen exiting Seamus Dardis’s farm having begun its chase from Huntsman Pat Coyles premises. read full story / add a comment |
