On Sunday 13th August thousands of Republicans from across Ireland and beyond travelled to Belfast for the National Rally to Commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the 1981 Hunger Strike. Ógra Shinn Féin mobilised thousands of youth from their areas to take part in the parade spending the last month, postering, leafleting, spreading the word and organising buses across Ireland. Hundreds of Ógra Shinn Féin activists also played an active role in the parade, with the ÓSF contingent comprising of an Ógra Colour Party, The Blanket Protest, Hungerstrikers, ÓSF banners, Bin Lids and Youth Against The H Blocks. The ÓSF contingent was led by a banner of International solidarity reading 'Isreal out of Lebanon, Britain out of Ireland!' The Rally left Dunville Park at 1pm and make its way to Casement Park. A separate Parade left Bobby Sands home area of Twinbrook and met the main rally in Casement Park. Along the route of the main parade six individual dramas depicting different elements of the H-Block Struggle will be performed by young people. In Casement Park the rally will be addressed by former POW Jennifer McCann, members of the Hunger Strikers Families and the main address will be given by Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams. read full story / add a comment

REPUBLICAN PRISONERS ACTION GROUP The organizers of the Hunger Strike Commemoration at Casement Park on Sunday August 14th snubbed the prisoners currently in Maghaberry Gaol and their families. RPAG had approached the organizing committee earlier this week with a statement setting out the conditions of Republican prisoners in Maghaberry. The organizers confirmed this morning that the statement could be read, but refused to let the mother of the prisoner read it herself. Despite the promises when it came to the event this afternoon no statement was read out. RPAG is therefore asking the media to publish the statement. Geraldine Taylor of Republican Sinn Fein said: “The prisoners and the families are outraged at how they have been treated. The families have shown solidarity with the families of the Hunger Strikers and believe that they have much in common. However the sacrifice of today’s prisoners’ and their families has been virtually ignored by those organizing this event.” For further details please contact 028 90319004 or 07921973328 read full story / add a comment
