Iris Robinson of the DUP has, today, claimed that people of a homosexual orientation should seek help from psychiatrists in order to be "turned around" referring to their sexuality. It is unbelievable that a member of an assembly responsible for the lives of others can come out and make these sorts of ignorant comments putting people's lives and well being in jeopardy. TaraWatch will launch a public petition today at a demonstration outside the AGM of the Irish branch of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), calling on ICOMOS and UNESCO to designate Tara a World Heritage site, but to insist that the M3 is rerouted first. read full story / add a comment

On May 21st special forces of the Austrian police forced entry to 23 homes of animal right activists across Austria. 14 persons were charged with suspected forming of a criminal organisation (§278a of the Austrian penal code) in connection with direct animal right actions. Ten persons were arrested and are in prison as suspects. At first nine were sent to the Vienna Neustadt prison and one to Innsbruck who has been brought to Vienna Neustadt on 28.05. Five prisoners are in hungerstrike at the moment, at least one since the 21.05. (date today: 29.05.). Resolution adopted by Jewish Socialists' Group national conference, June 1st, 2008. This conference of the Jewish Socialists' Group is alarmed at the growing threat of war against Iran, expressed by Western politicians and in the media, and unabated by reports that the Iranian regime has neither nuclear weapons nor plans to acquire them. We are concerned that despite the disastrous results of war in Iraq and unending bloodshed in Afghanistan, attempts are being made to accustom the public to these conflicts and make another, even more destructive war, seem inevitable. read full story / add a comment

éirígí Defends the Irish Right to Commemorate 1916 31/05/08 éirígí in mid-Ulster engaged recently in a number of commemorative events time scaled to coincide with the beginning of the Easter Rising and the execution of the last of its leaders. This provoked a carnival of reaction from unionist politicians and the RUC/PSNI in the mid-Ulster area, resulting in public condemnation of the commemorations by no less than five DUP representatives, and the theft and destruction of commemorative materials and flags by unknown entities throughout the period. read full story / add a comment

Our objective is to reveal the truth behind a CR Gas attack on hundreds of Political Prisoners by British Crown Forces on October 15, 1974.
