Ahmed Dari, who lives in Jerusalem, had his home demolished in 2003. He rebuilt in 2004, but his home is once again about to be destroyed. ARAN is taking a big step and is willing to organize a huge rally against the cruelty on December 10th 2006, which is the official International Day For Animal Rights. All over the world events will be taking place and we want this year to be the biggest ever here in Ireland. Right now the animals are counting on us all to speak up and free them from the pain and needless suffering that is taking place in the greyhound industry, bloodsports, circuses that use animals, animal experiments, shooting, fishing, homeless and abandoned dogs, cats and other animals, animals slaughtered for their skins, their flesh and even dogs that are chained up all over the country who are forced to live outside in all weather extremes be it in the thundering harsh winter or the excruciating summer heat that we seem to be getting, all this without food, water or shelter and there is so much more happening to animals. They desperately need us all to help them and we must because we all know this cruelty is needless and it’s in our hearts to do so. read full story / add a comment

Aontacht.net is a new Republican website created by a group of young Irish Republicans with the intention of debating the future direction of Irish Republicanism and its relevance to modern society. It was felt that there needed to be a more detailed examination of the problems facing the ideology than has been carried out before but that there was no exisiting forum for this to be done in an impartial manner away from party political lines. The main area of debate will be the discussion forum which will become the nucleus of a much bigger website in time. The moderators have been handpicked for their political experience, knowledge and political diversity. Aontacht.net is an ambitous project to bring agreement from people of divided political backgrounds and to create better understandings of respective positions. The official launch of the Belfast newspaper ‘Street Seen’ is to take place at the Belfast Unemployed Resource Centre, Donegal Street at 3.30pm this Tuesday 19th October. The paper is to be a local street paper for homeless people in Belfast and apart from advice and support for homeless people; it will cover politics, culture and many issues relevant to society. Numbers of people sleeping rough in Dublin city centre remain at record high levels, according to a new survey conducted by homeless organisations. Two hundred and thirty seven (237) people sleep rough in Dublin on any given night. The survey co-ordinated by the homeless Agency was carried out by Focus Ireland, Dublin Simon Community, Merchant’s Quay Ireland along with Dublin City Council and other homeless services. read full story / add a comment

Actor Cillian Murphy today (Monday 23rd Feb) helped launch a major public awareness campaign for the charity Focus Ireland to highlight the growing problem of homelessness and social housing crisis in Ireland. Right to a Home Campaign Nearly 6,000 homeless people feel nobody in power is listening to them. Three years into a Government strategy to tackle the problem it continues to get worse - Especially for families who are homeless. The official number of homeless people has increased from 5,234 to 5,581 since 1999. Meanwhile a record total of 48,413 households are stuck on housing waiting lists - That’s about 140,000 people in total.
