Writer/Filmmaker based in Dublin seeks to interview individuals who have been indirectly or directly affected by aggravated assault or street crime. According to Garda figures there were 3800 incidents of this nature last year in Dublin alone. The aim of this project is to more fully understand the residual effects of post traumatic stress arising from unwarranted assault. In doing so it is hoped to investigate the healing process and resilience of the victim through shared experience. Interviews will be carried out with absolute discretion to the sensitivity of the subject and at the convenience of those willing to take part. read full story / add a comment

Freedom of expression
When asked to explain what kind of content had brought about the charge, the police refused to comment, saying it was too sensitive.
But one officer, who did not want to be named, told the BBC it was comments about the monarchy posted by readers on the website at the end of last year that were at issue.
The Thai authorities have been increasingly intolerant of perceived criticism of the monarchy in recent months.
Thousands of websites have been blocked, and a number of people charged and arrested, including a well-known academic, who fled to Britain before he could be detained.
However the use of the severe lese-majeste law has provoked widespread condemnation around the world, and a campaign by academics to have the law changed.
By instead invoking the new computer crimes law - passed just 18 months ago - the authorities may be hoping to stifle debate about the monarchy without stirring up another outcry over freedom of expression in Thailand.

The fact that five Mayo Gardaí earned €325,111 in overtime payments last year, once again illustrates how the current Government thinking still seems to be, that throwing money at the Corrib Gas debacle will make it go away.
One Mayo Garda earned €80,990 in overtime last year, which was the highest of any of the Garda claims in the country. While 3 of the top 5 overtime earners in the country came from Mayo. read full story / add a comment

The Disaster Emergency Committee in Britain, which is a group of about 20 of the country's leading charities is making an appeal for urgent aid for the people of Gaza. Britain's broadcasters have for about 40 years aired these appeals free of charge. By convention, the appeal will only be broadcast if all of the broadcasters will agree to do it. The BBC has refused to broadcast it and so too have Sky - on the grounds that it would bring their 'impartiality' into question. The BBC Director General and the corporation's executive committee made the decision late last week . It has caused outrage all over Britain and within the corporation itself where staff and unions are deciding what action they can take to make senior management reverse this decision. Staff have been threatened with the sack for speaking out in public.

Israel has been using a huge amount of munitions and explosives in its assault on Gaza. War crimes have been committed during this assault in which over 800 Palestinian people have been killed including as many as 250 children. Over the past 48 hours four Hercules military aircraft landed and were refuelled at Shannon airport. Their destination is not yet known, but in recent times only about four military aircraft were refuelled at Shannon per month. The possibility exists that Israel is being resupplies with munitions expended in its murderous attacks on Palestinians by aircraft transiting through Ireland and Irish airspace with the permission of the Irish Government. read full story / add a comment
