Why is the current situation in Ukraine happening? Why are the US funding and driving this insane provocative campaign on Russia's doorstep at this time? when we finally get a left leaning government and we start really taxing the rich why not use the money wisely and invest it into a renewable energy model that involves Irish people buying shares in the projects and the money raised by the taxes can be used to subsidise the projects. then when we have reached 100% energy production and are exporting our energy we can use the money raised to reverse the austerity measures implemented and improve Irish society as a whole. ... read full story / add a comment

Yesterday afternoon tragically 295 people lost their lives. What we do know is that if the Kiev fascist regime had any sort of tenuous proof that the separatists had shot it down the Western media would be screaming bloody murder. Instead they are quite coy and initially qualified it with the word accident. And accident of sorts it may well have been because it looks like this may have been more than yet another provocation by US/NATO via their neo-Nazi puppets in Kiev to widen the conflict but in fact may have been a direct attempt to assassinate president Putin because it has been reported his presidential plane flew over the same region approximately 30 minutes earlier. Water is becoming a corporate resource - the sell off of Irish Water is almost certain
Call me a cynic, but I am absolutely convinced that the current Irish government has created Uisce Éireann (Irish Water) with the sole purpose of selling Ireland’s water rights to the private sector within the next decade.
Already Uisce Éireann has wasted over €80 million euro in consultancy fees paid to the private sector and it will continue to use private sector contractors to carry out its work, at as yet unknown cost. The Local Council Elections are taking place this week and it is worth taking a look at what they are about and what main groups other than FF and FG are running whilst relecting on recent history aka the Mahon Planning Tribunal to remind ourselves of how bad things were. Not unexpectedly Martin Callinan was forced to stand down as head of the Gardai on 25th March 2014. Throughout 2013 I have written a number of articles concerning malpractices within the Garda organisation and particularly the questionable management style of (former) Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan. While Callinan was eventually forced from office, the ‘mess’ created during his term will take years to cleanse, indeed if ever. That will only happen when there is accountability. Amongst the outstanding bad practice issues are multiple claims of Gardai mishandling of a number of serious cases involving abduction, assault and murder that are being presently looked at by a Senior Barrister and now we are told that people have been maliciously prosecuted previously, it is frightening. The military campaign of the Republican groups was a failure. Some of us said this would be the case from the start. But some of us who did so did not put enough emphasis on the need to struggle for an international solution to the problems facing Ireland. This article seeks to put this right. It also seeks to look at the North and borders and the future taking into account the changes that have taken place and considering alternatives. A socialist united Ireland? Is this possible if the socialist revolution does not start first in England, Scotland and Wales and spread to Ireland North and South? Is it possible that the revolution could unfold in a way that would leave significant divisions in the working class and make the move to a socialist united Ireland not immediately possible? Perhaps some sort of Canton system like exists in Switzerland would be necessary for a time. At a time when the Government is advancing the ridiculous proposition that the Irish State is "regaining its economic sovereignty" by leaving the Eurozone bailout, sensible people will be more concerned at the possibility of a Cypriot-style "bail-in" for the Irish banks, entailing confiscation of customer deposits over €100,000, as the euro-currency crisis continues and the planned EU "banking union" makes provision for such steps. The continuing Eurozone crisis was discussed at the EPAM conference in Athens, Greece, last weekend week. At this event representatives of organisations from different EU countries agreed on the vital need for the Eurozone States to re-establish their national currencies and work towards the dissolution of the Eurozone, which is destroying the democracy of the peoples and States that use the euro and wreaking economic destruction and social misery on country after country. Recently returned from a stint in Palestine, the place that most struck me was the city of Hebron.
