Failed Washington-Sponsored Ecuadorean Coup Attempt

category international | rights, freedoms and repression | other press author Sunday October 03, 2010 12:54author by pat c Report this post to the editors

Stephen Lendman writes on the latest US sponsored Coup attempt, this time in Ecuador. This time it failed as did the attempts to overthrow Hugo Chavez. Stephen shows how the Bush destabilisation and removal of progressive regimes has continued under Obama. Full text at link.

Post-9/11, Washington sponsored four coup d'etats. Two succeeded - most recently in Honduras in 2009 against Manuel Zelaya, and in Haiti in 2004 deposing Jean-Bertrand Aristide. Two others failed - in Venezuela in 2002 against Hugo Chavez, and on September 30 in Ecuador against Rafael Correa - so far. Two by Bush, two by Obama with plenty of time for more mischief before November 2012.

From his record so far, expect it. He continues imperial Iraq and Afghanistan wars and occupations. In addition, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, Palestine, Lebanon, North Korea, and other countries are targeted, besides deploying CIA and Special Forces armies into at least 75 countries worldwide for targeted assassinations, drone attacks, and other disruptive missions.

I think this article jumps to conclusions about US involvement in the events in Ecuador without giving any evidence. The US's foreign policy in Latin America is undeniable with a long history of overthrowing governments it does not like. However, one shouldn't rely solely on what might be hinted at in a US Government press conference just because we are against their foreign policy. I think there is a more insightful report on Democracy Now: http://www.democracynow.org/2010/10/1/ecuador_declares_...cy_as
