Greystones and Corruption

The below story is in relation to the hand over of a public beach to developers.

Dear Resident

You received a statement from CCAC some time ago in relation to the scandal at the North Beach, Greystones in which we asked you to sign the statement and forward it to Ms Kathy Synnott MEP. From which there was a triumphant response. We know now that the feeling on the ground is still the same from the first day the 6000 objections were lodged with An Bord Pleanala. The residents of Wicklow town are experiencing the same fate by WCC . 2,500 people who signed the Friends of the Murrough petition to WCC should send it as a petition to the EU. We should send a letter to the Dept saying if WCC is looking for money for the road FOR Wicklow Port they should take part of €300m for ppp project for Greystones Harbour leaving out the apartments which is part of the project. We need a watchdog and the public need to see what they are getting for their money if there is money like this knocking around and the friends of the murrough will need to ask serious questions in relation to the €15M and where that’s going. We ourselves could find out under the Freedom Of Information Act. We don’t believe it’s going on walkways when they have other plans for the area like Greystones harbour and its foreshore. The conditions for corruption to fester exist when you have €115M knocking around. We do not support the construction of 341 residential units out on the public foreshore at the north beach Greystones which has nothing to do with the construction of a marina which the people of Greystones do not want. We say ‘take a hard look at the Dun Laoire Marina and Harbour. Do you see apartments on the foreshore? The answer is no. we say take a hard look at Howth Marina and harbour which is a fishing port. Do you see apartments on the public foreshore? The answer is ‘No’ We say for the people of Greystones to take a long hard look at the area councillors who supported the giveaway of our public beach to private developers along with our beautiful heritage and did not support you or your objections as elected representatives but will expect you in the coming months to vote for them in the ’09 Local Elections. We are already receiving their full colour glossy newsletters which was sent to you by An Post . There is money in politics and the golden circle is not just at Anglo-Irish Bank. We say: Put Them Out and make local Government work for you and your children’s future. We support the 1999 Greystones Delgany Development Plan and not the 2006 Local Area Rogue Plan. We also support the construction of community marina and harbour for the people to facilitate the berthing of 290 boats which is far less under the 2006 local area rogue plan. If you would like to see the scandal, just go to www.indymedia Greystones harbour deception and Greystones harbour revisited where you will see a full display of the Wicklow County Development Plan 2004-2010. As well as the1999 Greystones/Delgany Development Plan which is built in to the Wicklow County Development Plan which protects the public foreshore at the north beach Greystones. We received an email from Kathy Sinnott’s office. She was very pleased to inform us that she is inundated with signed statements to her office in Brussels as well as her office in Cork. These signed statements will be compiled into the petition which Ms Sinnott will host for us. All matters concerning this are confidential. So keep up the good work.

Thanking-you on behalf of the concerned citizens
Fintan O'Hara Secretary.

I just received this in my letterbox. I just though I'd say fair play to you for doing something about this. I'm a resident of Greystones who would have been opposed to whats happened at the harbour given that I've lived here for 35 years. That said I'm very much sit on my hands and do nothing so I commend you for doing this on my behalf.

Will it accomplish anything? Not sure but at least you make a stand. Corruption in Ireland is just everywhere. Somewhere its been instilled into us as normal as far as I can see.

Anyway best of luck. I'd prefer if you had a unique website though. Might get more traction with people Googling "Greystones" and related topics.
