Provos 'Protecting Informer'

category fermanagh | miscellaneous | press release author Friday October 24, 2008 19:53author by Richard Walsh - Republican Sinn Féin Report this post to the editors

The Provos have been asked why they are protecting an informer whilst accusing agents provocateur of being active within the Republican Movement.

Whilst John O’Dowd was quick to claim that ‘agents provocateur’ are behind Republican activity in North Armagh without offering any evidence, it has emerged that the Provisional Movement have been protecting an informer – whom they had discovered a considerable time ago – from exposure.

The man is a former Provisional prisoner from the Fermanagh area. He was recruited as an informer before his incarceration, and continued to operate in the same capacity within Long Kesh and after his release until his eventual exposure. Following his release he worked in the Provisionals’ Lisnaskea office.

A spokesperson for Republican Sinn Féin asked: “Why are the Provos protecting an informer whilst simultaneously engaging in black propaganda against those who continue to uphold traditional Republican values? They claim to oppose British parades whilst actively supporting British forces, and now it has emerged that they are cynically protecting agents who were active within their own ranks. It must be asked how many others they are likewise protecting?

“As an organisation, the Provos are unparalleled in their ability to embrace and implement British policy in Ireland.”

It is disgraceful that the hated Provos are defending an informer they have known about for some time. They are an affront to the Irish Nation.
