"I have more degrees than you" should never win debates. This American professor found out the hard way. Wielding credentialism to deny sex differences in human skeletons has drawn laughter and criticism.

Please join our protest!

The horrific cruelty of live hare coursing revolts many Irish people. Here is an opportunity tfor you to express your opposition to the practise and seek its abolition...by supporting our protest at the National Coursing Meeting in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary.

PROTEST AT NATIONAL HARE COURSING MEETING

Members of animal protection groups are coming together to mount a peaceful protest picket outside this year's National Coursing Meeting.

The event, to be held as always in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, is the All-Ireland showpiece event of the hare-coursing season, its annual “Ascot”, the high point of this barbaric so-called sport.

The National Coursing event has not been picketed for more than a decade, but pickets are now resuming because, despite the muzzling of greyhounds, hares continue to be mauled and injured at coursing events nationwide.

This is apart altogether from the stress and trauma they endure in the netting stage of the “sport”, when many of them break limbs or suffer agonising internal injuries, and the terror of confinement in cramped, unnatural compounds where hare mortality results from disease and illnesses.

Following the recent clampdown on the equally savage practise of carted stag hunting, it is surely time that hare coursing was given the “heave ho” by a Government that contains the Green Party.

In staging our peaceful protest, we wish to demonstrate to the Government, including the Greens, that Ireland’s wildlife heritage belongs to all of us…and is not the preserve of a small but politically well-connected minority.

We urge everyone who shares our abhorrence of hare coursing to join the protest.

It runs from 12 Noon to 2 pm outside Powerstown Park, Clonmel, on Wednesday, February 6th.

For further information contact me at (086) 3271179.

Thanking you,

John Fitzgerald,

Of Cruel Sports.
