![]() In Socialist Youth's Competition Last Saturday shoppers on Limerick’s O’Connell St got a chance to caste their vote for ‘Scrooge of the Year 2006’. Shell emerged victorious in Socialist Youth’s competition to find the most hated company in the country and were awarded their title on Tuesday the 19th at Shell HQ in Dublin. Shell won because people all over Ireland are appalled by them forcing through their dangerous pipeline in Rossport. People know Shell can afford to refine the gas at sea, sure they make around €1.5 million profit every hour and they didn’t pay a penny for the Corrib Gas! |

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3Great result, but maybe not as accurate as it could be! Don't forget the hidden costs in (almost) getting a project like Corrib off the ground... facilitation payments, "community funds", corporate dinners, breakfasts, lunches, PR consultations, more PR consultations, media "briefings", event "sponsorships", Christmas hampers, private security services, public security services, community "liason officers", and the all-important "incentives" dished out to those in the know. Surely this kind of schmoozing doesn't come cheap?!
I saw a similar campaign taking place on henry street last saturday by the same organisation, I presume shell were front runners there but it wouldn't hurt to post those results on a lovely pie chart like the one displayed above!
Hey,
Shell won the over all one as well, buit the pie chart is only limerick votes but its probably something similar in dublin. I wouldnt hold my breath waioting for the dublin results to be put up in pie-chart form but they did do a press release.
Cya,
