Big Jim's spirit is mightier than ever !
Big Jim's spirit is mightier than ever !

we dragged them to Westside Shell to do a two hour picket of the place when our instincts were AWOL in Erris blockading Bellanaboy, 'nuff said.

Fair play to yez - keep on spreading the word. Our environment is irreplaceable - why don't the politicians who've sold out want to see this?

You are a credit to us in a sleeping, uncaring land. Don't let the detractors - of which there are many, usually anonymous - get you down or impede you. Fred

Great to see the Galway crew busy once again. Apologies from Mayo for the late cancellation of the Solidarity Day, more actions to come soon and more input from all the groups is essential. We must keep up the pressure and keep it Truthful, Peaceful and Creative.

See you all in Dublin on Saturday.

One might well ask what Independent Newspapers plc, through their rag 'The Sunday Independent,' have to gain by traducing the efforts of the Shell-to-Sea protestors and all who follow them. What is 'Sir' Anthony O'Reilly's beef? The SI on November 26th carried a scorch-piece attacking Independent TD and campaigner, Dr Jerry Cowley, "who earned record amounts of money for treating medical card holders last year."

In journalism, this is called a non-story, as the same could be said of a great many doctors in the State who utilise the card scheme; it is the fault of the scheme, not of the doctors. Yet the story is cleverly spun here to throw mud. The headline read " 'Shell' TDs fee bonus'.

It is clear enough that the Sunday Indo are being told to tow a certain line; but by whom? Nothing is written in the SI that does not have the nod of the Top Office. So - the real story might be what interests the O'Reilly empire has, if any, in the Shell project, and on whose behalf - the government's? - their paper is now scraping the story-barrell to blacken protestors. But the Sunday Independent will never do that story. Blackening Travellers is more in their line - Travellers won't sue.

O'Reilly has exploration interests of the coast as well. A victory for Shell will make things easier for him to make money too. In a hurry for the bus, so I'll let you find the details, or someone else will post. Well done to all in Shell to Sea.

In relation to Shell to Sea. Valuable infrastructure waiting to be built, yet here ye are giving out about it, wake up and think about it, the benefit to the area during the construction phase will be huge and when its built thats it, enough said, ye'll hardly notice it. Did ye object when Bord na Mona built Bellacorrick, or the wind turbine construction started, I'll bet ye did but look at them and how they benefit the country as a whole during operation, look at the bigger picture.

Ye'll be grand, stop focusing on one little dot on a map, just let them get on with it and build the damn thing, you'd swear they were goin mining your little town for whatever resourse ye wish ye had.

Ye are just aggravating Shell, who incidently put a price on the petrol/diesel ye put into you're own cars. And wait a minute, let me think, who will bear the brunt of these charges, would it be possible that it would be just this tiny little backwater on the coast of Mayo, or maybe it might affect the nation as a whole, cos one little petrol station up there won't reap back the money Shell are losing. This little controversy is reducing their profit margins which they will look to reimburse by charging more at the pumps.

Incidently I've emigrated from this country and am writing this from Australia, because its incidences like this that are grinding this country to a halt, you can't built a shed without spending all the money in talking about it and giving out about it. Nobody wants anything built near them, its a disaster. Look at the Hill of Tara aswell, giving out about a road going through an area which people would not usually go and see let alone visit, at least with a road (another valuable piece of infrastructure) going through it it might generate a bit more interest. How about Bertie Bowl, Landsdowne to name a few, how much has been spent whining bout these potential assets?

Lets just let things get done, please, DOC
