Anti-Incinerator Campaigners hold a protest at Taoiseach's visit to Ringsend

category dublin | environment | news report author Friday November 24, 2006 21:33author by Paula Geraghtyauthor email mspgeraghty at yahoo dot ie Report this post to the editors

Activists in the Combined Residents Against Incineration today demonstrated in Ringsend as Bertie Ahern went on a pitstop tour of the area. Luminaries such as Michael McDowell visited the local community centre earlier in the week but evaded local campaigners.

People wished to express dismay, disappointment and anger at what the community have to go through with the threatened proposal of the multimillion Euro incinerator.

Bertie Ahern's car stopped at the entrance so not to be seen driving through a picket.

More details will follow.

I agree with everything poseted above, but the problem is you are allowing for common sense being in some way present among the current bunch of cowboys parked in Leinster House.

The fact is, like every other major developement in this banana republic, some 'entrepeneur' or 'captain of industry' presented a dazzling presentation to an incompetent minister who signed on the dotted line without consultation or recourse all the while being reminded by said entrepeneur or C.O.I. of the 'converstaion' they had in the FF tent at the Galway races, wink wink nudge nudge

It happens time and time again, to the point where a thoroughly disgusted and fed up public make enough noise to force the responsible minister to act. (at huge cost to the tax payer, Toll brigde a point in case)

Plain and simple, we have idiots and ideologues in power who are also ego maniacs and contemptous buffons. A killer combination if ever there was one.

They only relief i get is watching these morans laughably attempt to defend their positions/decisions and tie themselves in knots dodging questions because they haven't a f****** clue what they are talking about.

Bring on the revolution

My hope is that local people in the Ringsend area will question Prime Minister Ahern and Deputy Prime Minister McDowell HARD, and in public, as to why they and their supporters continue to ignore the high quality scientific evidence regarding the extremely serious health hazards connected with incinerators? - from scientists such as professor Dr Paul Connett's for example?

Does it make sense to improve our outdoor air quality problems by eradicating the burning of coal in many urban areas, and then promote the building of an incinerator to increase our emissions thus aiming to keep up our levels of pollution sources. Clean air - Irish style.
Long term traffic increases in the area carrying waste will add greatly to dioxin levels. The negative effect on the public health living near incineration is acknowledged by many countries . Other countries who have already embraced this form of dealing with their waste, and who have had accidents are mopping up, and looking at alternatives has already begun.
Massachusetts state government has banned incineration. New Zealand deal with their waste without commercial incineration. Many countries are looking at a sustainable way to deal with their waste - will we be PADDY last.

Put the man in the can.

He's trying to keep it off the agenda during this rather prolonged election campaign.
