Australia to build the worlds second largest solar power station

The Australian Government have finally recognised the problem of global warming and taken action to combat it.

The Australian and Victorian Governments yesterday announced that they are to build the worlds second largest solar power station in Mildura, Northern Victoria. The project is set to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 400,000 tonnes p.a. and will power 45,000 homes. It will be operational by 2013.

On the same day, the Government also announcedt that the Commonwealth will contribute $50 million towards a $360 million pilot for a brown coal drying and a post-combustion carbon dioxide capture and storage project at the International Powers' Hazelwood facility in Gippsland.

It seems that the Australian Government are finally listening to their people with regards to environmental policies.
