![]() A large group of Shell to Sea supporters blockaded the Donnybrook Shell garage this evening for the best part of two hours. There was a a heavy garda presence that attempted unsuccessfully to break the blockade and in the end only drew more attention to the protest. Members of Anarchist Youth, Labour Youth, UCD Students Union, republicans, Irish language speakers and a large number of non aligned activists took part in the blockade. Approximately 8 Gardai attempted to break the blockade and threatened arrest but activists stood their ground peacefully and refused to budge - so in the end the gardaí just stood around re-inforcing the numbers at the blockade. An RTE reporter and camera crew took footage and statements and there was great support from motorists and passers by. For the most part the forecourt was completely empty - when usually at rush hour the station could expect to be full. |
