Photo story; Marking one year of freedom and six of struggle in Rossport

The 30 of September marks one year since the Rossport five were relesed form Clover hill prison. One year since the release of the five, six years since the campaign first began and fifteen months from pickets commenced the struggle is far from over.

Today the anniversary was celebrated with a barbeque outside the gates of the proposed refinery site where earlier in the week campaigners sucessfully blocked Shell's attempt to recommence work. The atmosphere was relaxed as folk chatted, feasted on an ample spread and enjoyed the early autumn sunshine. Kids played football where earlier they, their parents and neighbours had stood in front of Shell trucks.

After the food the crowd made its way to Treasa McGarry and Vincent McGrath's garden nearby, where a yew tree was planted to mark the occasion. The tree was presented to the community by the woodland league. Vincent, Willie, Micheal, Brenden and Philip dug the hole and the tree was planted by Treasa McGarry and children from the community.
