5 years dead
To mark the 5th anniversary of the death of Carlo Giuliani anarchist youth took to the streets last night with stencils and hundreds of stickers to make sure his memory will live on.
Carlo Giuliani died in a street battle on the streets of Genoa on the 20th of July 2001 during a g8 summit. Carlo was shot in the face while attacking a Carabinieri jeep which then backed over his lifeless body. We do not lay any claim to the memory of Carlo but chose to remember him as a youth who died in direct confrontation with the forces of the state and afford him the respect he deserves, not as a martyr but as a comrade.
The young Carabinieri who murdered Carlo was cleared of any charges with the state claiming the bullet deflected off a rock thrown by protestors. The counter-investigation proves this to be pure fantasy - http://www.piazzacarlogiuliani.org/pillolarossa/index.php

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8Thank you for doing this. I was down at the Italian Embassy days after the state killing. the three other folks had all been deported on landing at Genoa Airport. What the deportees had in common was they had all been arrested in nonviolent blockades at Fasalane nuclear sub base in Faslane, Scotland.
I met Brian & Babs and within a few months I was flying to Scotland to be Godfather for their son, who all three turned up at our 2nd. trial last year. So it's a small world or a small movement!
Important to remember our dead, many thanx for doing this 5 years on.

Thank you for what you have done!
Here in Italy no one seems to remember: only journals like Liberazione, L'Unità, Il Manifesto, are corageus enough to write about what happened five years ago..you know on that 20\7\01 i felt as a baby who's been told that Santa doesn't exist. I was just a little boy, i thought that the police, "i Carabinieri", were men working to defend me and my country...i'd never thought that a Carabiniere was able to kill a 23-years-old guy. Anyway, someone told that the Carabiniere who shot Carlo was young: that's not correct! That Carabiniere (policeman) called Mario Placanica is not the real killer! Even Mrs Giuliani (Carlo's mum) says that on that jeep there was another soldier, probably a most important one, that is the killer. In fact, Mario Placanica have had a strange car crash...hope we'll get the truth!
'Carlo Tried To Resist: This Is The Truth' : Giuliano Giuliani
just over a year ago Carlo's Dad came over to Dublin to speak about his sons death/ murder, their differing political opinions/ solutions - times had changed from the old union days and he said he had a lot to learn from Carlo and his friends.
I managed to get my mother down for this talk and my sister, as stated above; it could be any of us. Civil liberties are being cracked down and Dissent is meeting more lethal force, how long will it be till Tazers arive here?
It was a bit surprising to see so few of the hardcore anarchists missing from the talk Carlo's father gave, even if it was a meeting with a trade unionist, a little bit of listening and showing up out of solidarity would have gone a long way - the man has had to see the images of his son shot dead in the face followed by his dead body being driven over.
anyway fair play to anarchist youth for stirring things up that bit more.

"It was a bit surprising to see so few of the hardcore anarchists missing from the talk Carlo's father gave"
Hardly surprising, carlos parents tour around calling for a broad left government, this has nothing to do with what Carlo died fighting for. I believe the meeting was put on by the swp too, Carlo would turn in his grave.
