The first time we are introduced to pure mathematics as a concept & with a name happens in aerly adolesence - its called the square root of minus one and we assign it the symbol "i".

It wrecks peoples' heads. More people are put off mathematics & pure mathematics, its sister science of linguistics and philosophical analytic logic or its kith & kin jolly deep theological speculation (breath) by "i" than by "pi".

Pi is very popular amongst the young. That is simply one other reason why "euler's identity" is such a beautifully written proposition. Go to the top of the page & look @ (((it))) = 0

Prize for this last week's really & critically astute reader goes to Miriam.
Miriam not to be fooled by prejudice or the difficult of downloading data from the EU parliament website, persisted with tenacity to expose a mendacious conceit in the "No Pope here!" article. She proved that no-one in Ireland including our regular contributors with degrees on European Politics really knows anything about our representation at Brussels or how to distinguish a phantom protest started from a site with more webhits than RTE enjoys in a week.

Quite right JD the Ploughshares aren't a ' pagan cult micro-minority group in Ireland " who are still haggling over possession of Tara, Lambay volcano & blood rituals." They just like right for that sort of thing. Relate it back to the original piece, not the supplemental and re-read it. Apparently I will never
be a student of mathemathics, but it looks pretty, (the proof).

Blood Rite is possibly not a big part of pagan rites, though I am not really sure.

Cyclic menstruation and the problems of RC with birth, womb and generally blood related matters
would put a lot of women off. It is almost primal fear of something 50% of the world's population go
through and in some cultures and religions itis celebrated.
