Activity, Debate and Comradeship in South Down

Activity, Debate and Comradeship was on the agenda at April’s 6 County Ógra Shinn Féin meeting. The setting for the weekend of activities was the beautiful Mourne Valley of South Down.

Included in the weekend of activity was a ‘Smash Political Policing’ Protest at Kilkeel PSNI Barracks which saw protestors scale the wall of the Barracks and adorn it with ‘End Political Policing’ Posters, a launch of Speaking Rights in the Dail campaign, walk for Suicide Prevention and a 6 County meeting which involved debate around the current political climate and setting out a plan of activity for the coming months. The day, ended with a meal for everyone, getting together to reflect on the day’s activity.

Barry McColgan praised the organisation of Ógra Shinn Féin in Down and said,
“The successful weekend was testament to their strength, despite the massive harassment from the PSNI in this part of Ireland, the local youth show their resilience by organising such events and grow stronger as a result.”

He concluded by urging Ógra activists and those interested in establishing an Ógra group to attend the next 6 County Ógra Shinn Féin meeting which will be held this Saturday 13 May in Belfast, their will be a Suicide Prevention Protest at 11am, Belfast City Hall, followed by the meeting in Sevastopol Street Office, Falls Road, which will begin at 12noon. The meeting will involve a leadership briefing and develop a work plan for the coming month. Anyone interested in attending please contact osf6county@yahoo.com
