The Sunday Papers "Judas" Edition

category international | history and heritage | news report author Sunday April 09, 2006 17:21author by iosaf mac diarmada Report this post to the editors

It has been long observed that people for some reason on their non-banking days readily absorb shite about Dangerous Places, Famous People, Sensible Saving Options, Holidays, Interesting facts, Sport results, Media, gardening and health as well looking ahead at “democratic evolution” and looking back at "how history was made".

This week's edition is very short. In fact I almost didn't write one, and like the "house arrest" edition that never transpired, the Judas edition almost escaped the open publishing network.

But you're not getting off that easily.

Whoever wins the elections today (& tomorrow) in Italy or Peru, life for Italians or Peruvians won't change that much. They've gone beyond the "quick fix". & I assure you if we don't like the results, we're not getting kids out on the squares in peace camps or huge protests decrying false elections.

The left in France has found an unexpected ally, in its ongoing really quite unprecendented struggle against Chirac's regime. ( C/F http://indymedia.ie/article/75208 http://indymedia.ie/article/74930 ) Valerie Giscard d'Estaing whom some of you will hopefully remember as being the man who wrote too many words as the proposed EU constitution, and whom we humiliated in 2005 ( C/F http://indymedia.ie/article/68685 ) has come out against the CPE and spoken in the most critical manner open to a man of his type of the Chirac regime and all its dauphins.

In typically British style, the report on the bombings of London on July 7th 2005, when our eyes were mostly set on the Gleneagles summit of the G8 ( C/F http://indymedia.ie/article/70614 ) has been leaked [to/by] the British Sunday commercial newspaper "The Observer" http://observer.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,,1750139....html The report for what it is worth dismisses Al Qaeda involvement and reduces the planning to only 4 individuals.
If we look back at our coverage of that awful day, http://indymedia.ie/article/70699 I at least feel vindicated for saying as much http://indymedia.ie/article/70699?&condense_comments=fa...13920 which was how I appraised the attempt by Al Qaeda fellow travellers to claim the event the previous day http://indymedia.ie/article/70699?&condense_comments=fa...13835 Like a jack russel shagging the trouser leg I'm not for letting go..... The Cobra comitee charged with the security of London usurped ancient liberties and rights and sacrificed freedoms in the name of a security operation which proved flawed and non-transparent. The leaking of this report this week, only serves to further compound the indignation at UK HMG's refusal to offer serious answers to the events of July 21 and the "failed bombings" and the subsequent round-up of individuals, the photographic evidence supplied to the press which was of dubious veracity and the murder of Brazilian citizen De Menezes on July 22nd.

In fact the question "may any state of the Western Alliance breed its own suicide bombers" remains open, I refuse to treat on this subject for the moment, and will suffice to cross reference to yet another "Sunday Papers" the Fatwa edition which appeared at midnight European time of July 21.

But note they (like many other activists such as Vincent Salafia of Tara) may face a life times debt for taking on the powers that be. i reckon one solution would be to see them elected to the Oireachtas, they've been to prison, they're decent people, between the wives and husbands of that group, and the many constituencies in Ireland, surely a seat may be found? After all, its one of the best paid jobs which doesn't really require much effort and it will help them pay off the debts.

Labour and its game with Councillors in the economically deprived west of Ireland also caught my eye this week

I have chosen as illustration this week a photo of Cearbhall Ó Dálaigh (12 February 1911 – 21 March 1978) who served as 5th president of Ireland (19 December 1974 - 22 October 1976) and alledgedly said 'thundering bollocks and fucking disgrace' which was considered very strong language in those days. Oh yes, for indeed we have had great presidents of Ireland, have we not? Learn about them :-

Or learn about Judas Escariot - its up to you. Ask your neighbours if they have National Geographic Channel & watch the documentary tonight.
