The first week of the fast and vigil held outside of CRH of Fitzwilliam Square has been met with strong support from passerbys and fairly extensive media coverage. Articles were published in the Irish Times, Irish Examiner, Evening Herald, and The Star and interviews with Caoimhe broadcasted on the Gerry Ryan Show, The Last Word, NewsTalk 106, and numerous local and regional radio shows.
CRH - through P.R. firm Drury Communications released a press release which did not clarify their position any further than previous press releases. The release stated that Nesher, the subsidiary Israeli company in which CRH has a 25% share stake-holding, is not involved in the construction of the wall, nor does it provide concrete materials. The release did not, however, clarify, or deny the supplying of the raw material - cement - needed to make the concrete, nor did it clarify what CRH deems 'involvement' to mean.
CRH's line on the Wall, in the past, has been aggressively pro-Israeli. They have also denied the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice. In their release, however, they referred to the Wall as a 'so-called security wall' which is a politically correct way to describe the wall - and which is not in keeping with their own previous stance.
No attempt has been made by CRH personnel to engage in dialogue with Caoimhe Butterly, and the have refused to allow her to personally deliver letters to the reception, instead asking her to leave them in the mailbox outside.
The support of passer-bys has considerable. Passing tour busses have worked the vigil site into their spiel and pictures of the banners (and a very embarrassed looking Caoimhe!) will now find their way to homes in Japan, the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Hungary and Brazil.
Visitors, as well as activists and well wishers, have included Mary Lou McDonald (Sinn Féin,MEP), Aengus Ó Snodaigh (Sinn Féin,TD), and Labour and Green Party reps.
Caoimhe will continue the fast/hunger strike outside CRH today and will tomorrow begin the second week outside the Israeli Embassy in Dublin.
A press conference will be held on Friday and 1:30pm outside the Israeli embassy. Speakers will include Sen. David Norris, Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD, Jow Higgins TD, Jeff Halper (an Israeli activist presently in Ireland, founder of the Israeli Committee Against Home Demolitions), Caoimhe and Elizabeth Corrie (cousin of Rachel Corrie).
The speakers will call for; 1) Official endorsement of the call for the suspension of the Trade Association Agreements, 2) A nationwide boycott of Israeli goods, 3) Irish companies to divest from Israeli interests that contribute to the continuation of the Occupation (such as CRH).
All are welcome to attend the press conference, and keep Caoimhe company outside the embassy for the coming week.
Al Jazeera will be on hand before Monday to film the vigil, which will be broadcast to viewers in the Middle East (Where CRH has considerable). The story has also been carried in various Arabic newspapers messages of solidarity have been sent from Palestine, Iraq, Egypt, Israel, Syria, Lebanon, Japan, Australia, England, Spain, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, etc.
A Californian activist, presently making a documentary about the occupation, will be traveling to Dublin to join and film the fast/hunger strike over the weekend.

Two blocks down toward the city from the U.S. Embassy on Pembrooke Rd. Get a bus from Trinity (right hand side of it as you face the gates on Dame St.)...get the 18 from Ballyfermot or Kimmage
You ought go to sleep happy tonight in the knowledge that you have made your point, and more, and not even given an indication of bus timetabling, postal address or such.
You've a great future. You could be a diplomat.
:-)
It's there to keep homicide bombers (even the child ones) out. It's a good idea, since the Palestinians and the Arab world have clearly shown they have no interest in co-existing peacefully with Israel.
This Caoimhe character has sadly picked the wrong side, she's been hoodwinked by the terrorist ladership of the palestinians.
"terorist ladership" jesus classy stuff
do you get a prize if you "pick the right side" by the way
any way for anyone interested
here's a couple of accounts account of how the "terrorists" are being prevented from living and working in their own country

I Was Shot While Escorting Jenin's School Children
by CAOIMHE BUTTERLY
In today's reinvasion of Jenin Refugee Camp, the Israeli Occupation Forces I had been trying to get between the unarmed children and the tanks. I went with a friend to evacuate a sick child and we were immediately arrested and taken to a place where about twenty Palestinian men were being blindfolded, handcuffed, stripped to their trousers or underwear, and beaten severely. After I was detained for two hours Israeli soldiers said that I was free to go. I asked permission to remain with the men, hoping to minimise the violence, but the soldiers refused, saying it was not allowed. When I refused to leave, I was forcibly dragged away, pulled down the road, and told that if I returned to the area I would be shot.

I looked back over my shoulder and could see the soldier in the APC pointing his gun at me from about one hundred meters. Near the entrance to the alley, I was shot in the thigh. When I fell they continued shooting in my direction. I crawled part of the way up the alley, and then some of the youngsters dragged me up the rest of the way. No ambulances were allowed into the camp, so I was carried on a makeshift stretcher to where a Red Crescent ambulance could reach me near the entrance of the camp. While I was in the Emergency Room of Jenin Hospital, Iain Hook of UNRWA was brought in. He died a few minutes later.

Caoimhe Butterly Hunger Strike Day 10
Caoimhe Butterly gives an interview to an American journalist
If ever someone fitted the bill as a fifth column it must be Ms Butterly.
How any one can deny the right of Israel to defend itself against 300 million arabs and the annihilation that would be their fate if they let down their guard is beyond me. but Ms Butterly goes beyond this and actively advocates the cause of an arch terrorist Mr Arafat and his bloodthirsty arab crew, who when facing the Isreali forces in open combat in 1948/56/67/73 ran like the cowards they are, and can only resort to indisriminate murder of civilians by brainwashing arab dupes to blow themselves up in pubs, buses and restaurants.
Yours Sincerely Peter O`Donovan
as you are obviously a dupe living a diet of undiluted Israeli propaganda.
Unlike you Caoimhe is a person of the utmost integrity and has lived in occupied Palestine and Iraq for extended periods and has been shot by Israeli soldiers "defending" themselves (in the same manner they "defend" themselves from their neighbours ie by killing them) and has a deep knowledge of the facts on the ground.
Your opinion is worthless, adding nothing to this debate, and you would do well to educate yourself before spouting this kind of uninformed drivel in the future.
In light of the genocide being perpetrated by Arab militia and with the undeniable support of the Sudanese Government, on black muslim citizens of Sudan, is Ms Butterly planning any protests against the Sudanese Government.
As she has so many high level contacts among her arab friends in the Middle East, is it possible that she could make a protest via such luminaries as Mr Arafat.
However it would have little effect as the genocide being committed by the Arabs of Sudan against their Muslim brothers is exactly the plan Arafat et al have planned for the Jews if they were ever to let their guard down for a minute.
As Caoimhe is very busy trying to save lives in Palestine, maybe Peter could show by example; his own protest against the Sudanese conflict. If you put as much time and effort into supporting peace, as you do knocking Caoimhe, you might surprise yourself and save a life.
