UN Human Rights Report Praises US on Iraq

category international | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Friday June 04, 2004 14:33author by Lizard King Report this post to the editors

A UN human rights report today credited the US-led coalition with ending years of violations by Saddam Hussein’s regime, but also cited concerns over prisoner abuse.

“The fall of Saddam Hussein removed a government that preyed on the Iraqi people and committed shocking, systematic and criminal violations of human rights,” said the report by the UN high commissioner for human rights.

“After the occupation of Iraq by coalition forces there have, sadly, been some violations of human rights, committed by some coalition soldiers,” the report said.

“Governmental leaders of the countries concerned have, at the highest levels, condemned these violations and have pledged to bring those responsible to justice and to uphold the rule of law. It is imperative that this be done, with accountability to the international community.”

I'd have thought that the murder and mutilation of about 50,000 people would be pretty damaging to their human rights...

Definiton of Murder:

The offense of killing a human being with malice prepense or aforethought, express or implied; intentional and unlawful homicide..

I don' t think the international forces who liberated Iraq and Afghanistan are guilty of murder, at all.

In fact, they're heroes.

It's pretty obvious that you intend to kill them (or at the very least seriously harm them)
When you drop bombs on cities you're not just doing it as a hobby.

When you order a hundred thousand other people to drop bombs on and shoot guns at other people then it's pre-meditated murder.

It's not all praise, as mentioned above.

“Mr. Al-Rawi said that the ill-treatment which he suffered as a political prisoner under Saddam Hussein was bad, but that during his days in Abu Ghraib as a Coalition Forces detainee he suffered humiliation and mental cruelty, in addition to the physical torture,” the report states.

In comments on the report, the United States authorities stated that they were “particularly concerned about these allegations which they considered extreme and inconsistent with other reports.” They added that the charges would be investigated.

Yeah, well everyone knows that the UN has always been a vehicle for American imperialist policy, providng the necessary fig-leaf of respectibility when needed.

I think we can treat this as more US propaganda through their imperial PR agency, the UN.

Did the UN really say this?

But evryone knows that the UN is a puppet of US imperial policy.
