SPORTS PROJECT “SPORT UNDER SIEGE”
Salah sports Association – Jalla Association

Milan, February2004

This is an appeal to supporters, sport associations, individuals, as well as collectives, to make their contribution to support the campaign “Sport under siege” , which is meant to help the inhabitants of a refugee-camp in Deheisheh-Palestine.

The project is the result of the passion for sport, and especially for football, of some guys belonging to two Milanese associations, a.s. Salah – sport contro il razzismo (sport against racism), and Jalla – qui non c’č pace (here there is no peace).
The former is committed to promote sport in its popular value and against business, the latter to build projects of international cooperation.

During the last years we travelled to Palestine a few times and we had the chance to admire the dedication of those who go on training, running and playing under the burden of a military siege, which is aimed to choke, first of all, the trust in the future.
We therefore decided to make our contribution and help Deheisheh guys to practise sport, by sending technical material and outfits to Abu Ammar Shababia sports association, and by giving hospitability in Italy to some people of the association.

It is now necessary Your tangible support to enable a football team, made of 14-to16-year old guys of a refugee camp, to take part in the next edition of the World Antiracist Championship, which will take place in Montecchio (RE) from 7th to 11th July 2004.

The cost of the guys’ travel and stay in Italy (about 10 people) will be entirely met by the committee which promotes the project, and by those who will answer this appeal by making their contribution (choosing the kind of help they prefer) to realise this dream.

This is a chance to build a connection with those associations which go on practising sport, in the occupied territories, under the Israelian military siege, with clear practical problems and lack of adequate structures, means and places.

Sport is hard work, sweat, honest challenge, self-knowledge and knowledge of the others, respect of the rules.
Sport is a way to get together and socialise, and it helps individual and group growth.

We are promoting this campaign which is meant to be only the beginning of a more general action of support to Palestinian civil society. We hope that this kind of projects will increase, in order to not miss the chance to support those who go on practising sport, in the occupied territories.

The final project, including the complete list of the material the guys of Abu Ammar Shababia sports association asked us for, and the budget for the travel of the football team to Italy, will be ready in February.
