14 people (some pictured above) turned out in Cloverhill Courthouse this morning to support Owen Rice as he was scheduled to appear for an appeal of his bail conditions before Judge Kearns.

Owen ended his hunger strike today at the courthouse.

The list for the bail appeal court is done alphabetically so Mr. Rice was listed as case 61 (out of about 63 -65 cases)
Unfortunately, there was a huge delay in the court, which was reported to be caused by a surprise work-to-rule by prison staff. This meant that most the the cases were delayed as the defendants had not arrived.
About half the cases never got called, including Owen's.
The appeal was adjourned until next Monday.

Just spotted someone in the photo who I hadn't counted.

Pity we had to wait all day for no result, but then again so did Det Sgt. Joe O'Brien who had travelled up from Ennis to oppose bail.

If you want to be in the court next Monday, take the 78A bus out from Dublin City Centre and get off at the stop after the Cherry Orchard Hospital, take the short cut through the gap at Whitethorn court, and then turn left.

According to his barrister, Owen is said to be in good spirits and determined as ever.

Why did he start it?

I am glad to hear he has ended his hunger strike. Well done Eoin for going 18 days without food for the sake of the anti war movement in Ireland. Amazing self-sacrifice.
