Schedule of Policy Motions adopted by the 19th YFG National Conference, Ennis, 29th November 2003.
Below find the motions passed at the Young FIne Gael National Conference in Ennis and adopted as Young Fine Gael Policy. YFG motions are voted upon using the one member, on vote system. Schedule of Policy Motions adopted by the 19th YFG National Conference, Ennis, 29th November 2003.
1. ALCOHOL POLICY
Young Fine Gael calls on the Irish Government to place a five-cent levy on the purchase of all alcoholic products and for any revenue generated in such a manner be ring-fenced and used solely to finance social facilities and events free from alcohol.
2. ALCOHOL POLICY
That this conference calls on the Government to reverse the absolute prohibition of under 18s on licensed premises after 9pm, to restore late drinking hours Thursdays and to transform the efficiency of the National I.D. card scheme.
3. IMMIGRATION POLICY
This Conference believes that the Irish Government should provide an amnesty for the immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers that have settled and made a new life in Ireland. It believes that all people, no matter what colour, deserve a chance to have a normal life, have a job, pay their taxes, and contribute to Irish Society by becoming a part of it.
4. WESTERN DEVELOPMENT
YFG calls on the Minister for Transport to re-open the Western Rail Corridor between Sligo and Limerick and the construct spur lines to Shannon and Knock airports in order to boost economic growth in towns and villages along the Western sea board and thereby, making it easier for young people to travel to and from college, boosting tourism in the area significantly, allowing increased decentralisation of Government department’s to the West, easing some of the gridlock which exists in Dublin by making the West of Ireland a more accessible, attractive place to live and work.
5. YOUTH WELFARE
In an effort to address in a constructive manner the issue of suicide among young people and family and social issues affecting young people today, this national conference believes that all secondary schools should have a counsellor available to students two days a week.
6. EMPLOYMENT POLICY
Over-qualifications as a valid means for rejection of a certain job application be eliminated and in fact be categorised as a case of Discrimination under statutory law.
7. HONOURS SYSTEM
That YFG supports a system of rewarding prominent Irish people who have distinguished themselves in their respective fields
8. AUGUST 22nd
This conference believes that August 22nd should be declared a National Holiday.
9. C0CA-COLA BOYCOTT?
That Young Fine Gael shall oppose all attempts to ban Coca-cola products in Irish Third level institutions. (Adopted as an emergency motion)

Michael Collins was shot.
Sounds like a good enough reason to me!!
Where all those motions on ending irelands neutrality, supporting irelands entry to NATO and to any future european common defence?
Where's the most useful motion YFG could adopt, you know, the motion to disband...
We were depressed at school because we felt different and people didn't like us, therefore we want counsellers for every class maladjusted kid, we really don't like the idea of succesful meritocratic types getting titles, honours, lapel pins and Kudos galore and feel it's about time the Irish Republic gave something more than "Aosdana/ad hoc Doctorates". Furthermore being now adjusted to life at university we feel it necessary to lecture our contemporaries on the dangers of alchopop as it keeps our parents from worrying about us on Sunday Mornings when we're coked up to the skinny little cheekbones, as a slightly liberal notion we'd like to push for an amnesty for immigrants because if Bush 2 can do it for mexicans, then we can surely get away with supporting something that sounds liberal, we are appalled on a seasonal basis by the lack of proper european standard public transport to the prettier parts of our isle, and it is very embarassing when entertaining our continental fraternal brethren from the Italian neofascist Burlosconi youth league, (we'd like to push for a amnesty for drinkbanned eurodrivers but it would clash with the alchopop resolution).
Finally we _do_ have a feeling that a lot of people are overqualified for not only work, but life in general and it will make us sound really clever and achieved if we push for that sort of discrimination.
My Comment:
Stick It up your Arses.
You're not getting a job in coca cola.
And you can really hear the snivelling.
YFG conference 2003 also passed these polcy documents

9 motions passed at a conference. The motions don't even have any detail to them. Pretty pathetic lot if that's all they can do over a weekend!
Mark... you seen to have missed my post above yours providing links to 3 VERY DETAILED policy douments adopted at the conference...
Surely it would be more appropriate to prioritise July 12 as a new Public Holiday. The recognition that Ireland encompasses 2 traditions is more worthy of celebration than the death of a Catholic Nationalist Militarist.
Why put in the "no matter what colour" clause apart from to drive home the fact that you are "not a racist" (Father Ted).
As for all people deserving to live in Ireland (leaving aside the bizarre use of the word deserve) how on earth would you implement a policy that all people can live in Ireland?
You might well abhor the current global system that allows for movement of capital and not of labour. Clearly as YFG you are not suspicious of national borders per se, although that's the logical endpoint of this kind of argument.
However, given the current restrictions on movement of people how will it work to allow anybody who wants to to live in Ireland?
Surely they have the Labour party to do that Pat?
I just have to say that those policies are absolutely PATHETIC.
Fine Gael support bringing in an honours system! they think that businessmen and those giving donations to parties should ahve their egos inflated even further with an honours system. Arise Sir Michael Lowry!
Then we see FG wanting to give an amnesty to "asylum seekers that have settled ". What about those that have not "settled"? You monsters don't say anything about them. In the same motion you scumbags say that refugees should get asylum! You idiots by definition a refugee is someone that has got asylum!
Then to cap it off you think that students should ban Coca Cola. Instead of making points about the terrible human rights abuses that Coca Cola are engaged in in Colombia you guy condemn those wanting to show solidarity with persecuted colombians.
From the above motions what I see FG as are nasty thatcherites that are against trade unionism in Colombia, against asylum seekers unless they are "settled", ignorant of refugees, and you want to give Coca Cola bosses knighthoods.
"Then to cap it off you think that students should ban Coca Cola."
I think what you mean to say is that they don't want students to Ban Coca Cola! This makes more sense since you seem to criticise their choice by supporting a ban yourself. I am interested as to why this has become such an important topic as to warrant a resolution while it appears a common defence policy for Europe does not. I think that those who wish to become tomorrow's leaders should address serious topics and not merely hide the undisputable questionable practices of large multinational corporations. Not to brush aside the issue of a Coca Cola boycott as an unimportant topic, but surely it is not the most important in the light of the fact that Ireland is now holds the Presidency of the EU. Of course FG will not be in power while we hold the Presidency but surely policies of enlargement, integration and EU foreign policy are discussed at YFG conferences. Generally people know where you stand on these issues but should you not still be discussing these policies while the spotlight is on this country?
It was almost certainly one of Bertie Ahern"s people(gunmen )that did for Michael Collins all those years past.It is now time for a reconciliation.Given the all time low,to which the Mirror Image Party(Finn Gael), have descended,..and their ineptness even in the simple activity of Corruption, they would be wise to disband ,join ,and learn from the real professionals..Fianna Fail..instead of trying to" cod people".! Bertie"s new crop of mobsters probably would not waste a bullet on ony of them now...harmless buffoons that they are. They should be all rounded up in a dawn raid by the"Soldiers"and given a short re-education course in the Curragh Camp. After that who would be left to challange the affable and invincible Bertie?(joe Higgins and the dirty dozen excluded)
Any remaining troublemakers could be put on forced labour chain gangs in Finglas building "The Bertiebowl"as an everlasting monument to the great Teflon Taoiseach,..invincible ruler of Celtic Tigerland ,during the C.J.Haughey Dynasty.(until the young brood are ready).
Umar asked:
"Generally people know where you stand on these issues but should you not still be discussing these policies while the spotlight is on this country?"
In response: YFG are hosting a seminar for YEPP (the European Peoples Party youth wing) in Dublin on 29 Jan - 1 Feb. 100 delegates from 30 or so EU memeber-states, the accession states and other easteren European EU-hopefuls will attend.
Will we all get the 10th of january off for all time?
Dizzam, sounds like im hitting multiple birds with minmum effort.
What happened that waggy waghorn thread?
"Will we all get the 10th of january off for all time?"
I'm not sure why you suggested the 10th of January, but it did remind me of the first major demonstration I attended. That was the huge march against the visit of the South African rugby team to Lansdowne Road on 10th of January 1970 (really showing my age now). Anything else of significance happen on 10th Jan?
Sorry, it didn't click till I just reread the title of your comment. Sounds like a good idea, but of course I'd never be *seen* to be advocating anything which *might* be illegal.
Wonder is there another (legal) way we can give these hitleryouth types a hot reception?
