Smoggie Queens shows how far BBC comedy has fallen, says Steven Tucker. Let's be honest, there's only one reason the corporation made this awful TV programme, and it's certainly not because it's funny.

Jump To Comment: 119 November 2013 LAUNCH OF FARMED SALMON BOYCOTT - ‘Not On My Plate This Christmas’.
Representatives from 12 organisations opposing open cage salmon farms from across Ireland launched a BOYCOTT FARMED SALMON FOR CHRISTMAS campaign today. Boycott Smoked Salmon Protest Opponents of plans to expand salmon farming along the Irish coast assembled outside the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin to deliver a letter to the attendees of the Good Food Ireland conference . With banners and signs, protestors wearing white contamination masks greeted delegates and speakers to the conference, which was chaired by Darragh McCullough, Journalist & Presenter RTE's Ear to the Ground. Leo Varadkar T.D. Minister for Arts, Sports & Tourism along with representatives from Bord Iascaigh Mhara and Tourism Ireland were amongst the speakers.
Boycott Smoked Salmon ProtestIn its letter, the groups write ‘Disease, parasites, pollution – all of this could be controlled if farmed salmon were raised in contained systems which could be located in many derelict sites in harbours around along our coast, providing much needed employment without damaging anything. The additional cost of running these units is balanced by their ability to capture the faeces and use it to produce energy to power their systems rather than relying on the natural environment as a waste repository – something authorities would never permit on land.’ Unfortunately numerous attempts to deliver the letter were unsuccessful.
The Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney has funded Bord Iascaigh Mhara to apply for a licence to double Ireland’s farmed salmon output in one super farm in Galway Bay. Further expansion has begun or is planned by Marine Harvest, the Norwegian owned leading Irish farmed salmon producer in Kilkerran Bay in County Galway and Bantry Bay in County Cork.
The campaign has as its theme:
GIVE A GIFT TO THE ENVIRONMENT THIS CHRISTMAS – DON’T BUY FARMED SALMON.
The campaign website www.wildfish.ie provides stickers for supporters to use to spread the message.
‘We are asking people to forgo one of their favourite Christmas fare to support the call to protect our wild salmon and its waters,’ said Tony Lowes of Friends of the Irish Environment.
Supporting a global boycott campaign , today in Canada peaceful protests took place at eight super-stores across British Columbia. In London protesters dressed as Santa Claus asked customers to give a gift to the environment and boycott farmed salmon this Christmas.
