We were told there was no alternative to lockdown after Neil Ferguson warned of 200,000 deaths. But official UK inquiries into previous pandemics described modellers as 'court astrologers' and advised scepticism.

Mudder Oirlind...pull out the plug..she's flat-lining...but its actually a bigger problem, look at the Euro shufflers chasing their tails over the precipice...twentieth century minds(well, nineteenth really)and we're a decade into the twenty-first.
And Obama KNOWS better..but he still follows the Bush-map..pull that chain, she's down the drain.
Hey puc I can't comment on your blog without joining up to some corporate spying ring. Whats that all about?
I know Lefty; I'm not sure what the solution is? That's one of the reasons I post on forums like this, so that you can comment without being on blogspot...
You begin the thread with an interesting question: "How can the Irish people vote for a former Fianna Fáil luminary after all that has happened under the watch of the Soldiers of Density?"
My suggestion is that the mishandling of the economy and the lax attitudes of FF towards the banks and the building industry have not blotted out the "Irish Dream" among the run-of-the-mill voters. About eighty percent of punters since 1922 have supported FF or FG. These two centrist parties represent the muddle of the road economic aspirations of most citizens. I don't like that, but that's what people feel. They want an ideology-lite platform of socio-economic policies that will give them jobs, schools, grants and welfare supports, and have since 1922 thought, however deludedly, that FF-FG will deliver. Marxists and other radicals can talk until the cows come home about false consciousness, hidden ideological substructure and superstructure, nationalist smokescreening, religious opium, hidden curricula in the schooling process, Gramscian 'hegemony', media bias and obfuscation and anything else that may keep the masses deluded. Alas the Irish Dream persists and will persist and it will remain a social dream (call it a fantasy if you will) that the Left outside the Labour Party cannot dislodge.
Gallagher epitomises gladhanding, suited entreprenurial respectability in the eyes of most voters. He is what many quietly would like to become. I won't vote for him as I don't believe the dream he embodies. I am really sorry for Michael D Higgins, who if elected president would uphold the role of the arts and intellectual discourse in Irish life. For all his virtues and personal perseverance in public life going back 25 years, Michael D is alas not part of the Irish Dream.
But if any posters can convince me otherwise, let them try.
Invest in a copy of the current Phoenix. Background on both MDH and G. Information.
I think, if i do vote, I'll vote for dangerous dan mcgrewsome.. the bogie man who has the neo-unionist pale-face shitteratti filling their collective media nappy.
No sign of MDH refusing the onerous burden of 300K pa. Or challenging the pink-collared blueshirt ECB kissing.
Fruity tones of cherry-red careering upwards into the victors history buck.
I'd vote for the Rubberbandits...in fact.....no I'll stick with the big bad wolf.
"Alas the Irish Dream persists and will persist and it will remain a social dream (call it a fantasy if you will) that the Left outside the Labour Party cannot dislodge."
Know why Its called "The Irish Dream" ???
Because you have to be asleep to believe it!!!

knew there was a reason why I didn't trust sean gallagher!! ;-)
Simple really. Paul Simon put it best: Such are promises... All lies and jest... Still, a man hears what he wants to hear... And disregards the rest.
..and also defined the problem as succinctly as it gets..'..a loose afflliation of millionaires and billionaires..'.
@ serf and another commentator. We can dream while sleepwalking. Shakespeare said (King Lear) :
"We are such stuff as dreams are made on, and our little lives are rounded with a sleep."
Gallagher will edge Michael D with votes from the sleepwalkers.
