Update 25th April: The Indymedia email server continues to be out of action which means notifications are not working and emails cannot be sent through the site contact form. We are working to get this system back in place.
We are in need of money once again to pay our website hosting bill which is due in mid April and now to cover the cost of the replacement of some hardware. We have set a target of €2000 as that is the amount needed per year to keep going. We are appealing to you the public to help out no matter how small a donation you can make.

The elections in both Greece and France last weekend have witnessed a resounding rejection of austerity. The grandly titled "Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union" is supposedly about "stability" in the Eurozone. The new County Chairman of Wexford Sinn Féin has called for a no vote to the so-called "Fiscal Compact" Treaty in the upcoming referendum - (formally, the intergovernmental Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union). Oisín Ó Conail, a farmer and recent economics graduate from Foulkesmill, was elected the new Chairperson of Sinn Féin in County Wexford, at a Comhairle Ceantar meeting in Enniscorthy last Tuesday night. The People's Association Watchdog are calling for a deferment of amendment Article 136, and ratification of the ESM untill after the referendum on the 'The Fiscal Compact' so the people of Ireland can make an informed choice without fear or favour. We further require that the government ensure our sovereign right to say yes or no by ensuring a referendum on the ESM. After they had agreed the final wording of the intergovernmental agreement—the "Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union"—the member-states of the euro area pronounced that the treaty “represents a major step towards closer and irrevocable fiscal and economic integration and stronger governance in the euro area,” which they claimed “will significantly bolster the outlook for fiscal sustainability and euro area sovereign debt and enhance growth.” According to the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, the euro-zone member-states have set themselves on an “irreversible course towards a fiscal union.” She told an international gathering at Davos: “We have to become used to the European Commission becoming more and more like a government.” ... read full story / add a comment
DO YOU KNOW that Ireland could hold the Eurozone at our mercy regarding our national debt, the Anglo-Irish promissory notes and the terms of the Troika’s Memorandum of Understanding? It is seen by the Fine Gael-Labour Government, as well as by its Fianna Fail predecessor, as a way round the restrictions on ratifying new EU Treaties without constitutional referendums here which were laid down by the Supreme Court in its 1987 Crotty judgement.
