Update 25th April: The Indymedia email server continues to be out of action which means notifications are not working and emails cannot be sent through the site contact form. We are working to get this system back in place.
We are in need of money once again to pay our website hosting bill which is due in mid April and now to cover the cost of the replacement of some hardware. We have set a target of €2000 as that is the amount needed per year to keep going. We are appealing to you the public to help out no matter how small a donation you can make.

Dublin Primary School brings their young pupils to night of gambling at the dogs. The O‘Connel’s primary school Parents Association obviously believes that Gambling is a healthy pursuit for 8 to 10 year old schoolchildren. A night at the dogs was arranged by the OCS Parents association on last Thursday 3rd May. A mini-bus and apparently a Gardai community Van shuttled children for a night of gambling at Shelbourne Park to bet on about 12 races as no underage limit applies at Greyhound and Horse tracks in Ireland. One child won 60-80 euro and the website for the school said the following regarding the event. The O Connell Primary School Dublin website states-‘ A Night at the Dogs posted 4 May 2012 00:08 by Gerry Hancock .A big Thank You to everyone who helped out with or attended the OCS Parents' Assoc. Night at the Dogs last night. It was an overwhelming success.’ ... read full story / add a comment

Read it online now at thefreeonline.wordpress.com. (or free download for all apps) The original of The Free was set in a fictional Ireland, and even in this huge updated 4th edition you can recognize streets, and Dublin banter. The thriller story is more topical than ever, set in an anarchist/feminist social revolution which triumphs due to the collapse of Capitalism caused by climate chaos. Now it's a world book, with 2035 'Friends on Farsebook', but the first chapters could be the backstreets of Dublin. ... read full story / add a comment

On Monday 13th February 2012, the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign held a four hour day-time vigil outside the Israel Embassy in Dublin in solidarity with Palestinian political prisoner and hunger striker Khader Adnan. This action took place on the 58th day of his hunger strike against his administrative detention (internment without trial) by, and physical abuse suffered at the hands of, the Israeli state. Khader was detained on 18th December 2012 and put in prison for four months (despite not being charged with anything). He immediately embarked upon a hunger strike in protest at the conditions and treatment faced by both himself and the over 4,440 other Palestinian political prisoners languishing in Israeli prisons. Physicians for Human Rights – Israel were today allowed to examine Khader, and reported that he remains shackled to his bed, his condition, “already at a life-threatening stage, continues to deteriorate” and he is “experiencing extreme pain.” It is clear that without intervention to secure his release, he will die soon. ... read full story / add a comment

One of the main criticisms of the status quo in Iran is the relegation of women to second-class citizens, something which had been explored by Iranian filmmakers repeatedly in the previous years. Many of these filmmakers were involved in the Green Wave, and this season attempts to select work which represents both these artists and their concerns on the rights of women in contemporary Iran. As the regime cracked down on protesters, the punishments imposed on many of the names mentioned in these notes make for chilling reading: Pegah Ahangarani and Mahnaz Mohammadi, repeatedly arrested and imprisoned, currently on release; Mohammad Rasoulof, imprisoned for six years; and most cruelly, Jafar Panahi, imprisoned for six years, and prohibited from filmmaking for 20. ... read full story / add a comment

rabble is a non-profit, newspaper from the city’s underground. It’s collectively and independently run by volunteers. rabble aims to create a space for the passionate telling of truth, muck-raking journalism and well aimed pot-shots at illegitimate authority. We stand within, and with, Dublin as it struggles from below against the ghost of the Celtic Tiger and the state it left us in. We support those who fight with a new world in their hearts and encourage those who create cultures that seed hope in bleak times. Those involved know each other from alternative media and street mobilisations, from raves, gigs and the football terraces, or by just living in the village that is Dublin. We range from people living and raising their families in the city, to community and political activists, to artists, messers and mischief-makers. We Are rabble. ... read full story / add a comment |
