April 7th to 13th is Latin America Week – a week full of opportunities to learn about, discuss and experience different elements of Latin American culture, history and politics. It is organised nationally by the Latin America Solidarity Campaign, and this year UL Socialist Youth is adding our support to others in UL to make this the best one yet.

This year there will be movie showings on Tuesday and Thursday, a music workshop and play on Wednesday, a salsa night in the sports bar on the Thursday and Latin American food on Friday. Full details will be posted up soon.

Council grants injunction against protestors

The High Court has granted an injunction to Limerick County Council against four people who have occupied the county buildings since yesterday afternoon.

Mr Justice Iarfhlaith O'Neill granted the injunction against Donal O'Brien and Kenneth McCarthy from Pallaskenry Co Limerick and Patrick Gleeson and Daniel Foley from Kildimo Co Limerick.

The court was told the four are members of the Bleach Lough Water Retention group and are involved in a long-standing protest against plans by the County Council to change the water supply to the Kildimo/Pallaskenry area.

DEFENCE MINISTER Willie O’Dea was at the centre of another embarrassing gaffe last night after it was claimed he was forced to pull out of the launch of the biography of the famed Limerick IRA man Sean South of Garryowen.

The minister, who is also from Limerick, withdrew from the event claiming he did not realise who the book was about when he agreed to do the launch. The biography by Des Fogerty is entitled Sean South of Garryowen.

The only thing preventing Israeli officials from jumping up and down with glee, according Aluf Benn of the daily Haaretz newspaper, was the fear that "demonstrated Israeli enthusiasm for the draft could influence support among Security Council members, who could demand a change in wording that may adversely affect Israel."
