Sometime ago, retired Justice Kinlan wrote a damning report on our prisons. McDowell, Minister for Justice Equality and Law Reform, went into a 'huff'. He accused Justice Kinlan of being out to get him. The question remains:- A young man was brutally murdered in a cell while five prisoners looked on. The Scariest thing in Derry this Halloween “Last night I watched our city stagger out of the bars and clubs. Broken bottles and cut eyes. Girls in bright clothes taunting boys with gold rings. I stood there for hours listening as it turned blunt and angrily cast around for the wrong look or a flicker of fear to attack. A publication called Centre Focus is a regular newspaper funded by FAS. It uses as an office the Centre for The unemployed North Main st. The building is owned by Cork Council of Trade unions. In a series of tabloid style articles it has raised concerns about sterotyping and attackiing those that are involved in progressive activist work and in particular the greater understanding between different ethnic and religous groups. 10% are not. Of that 10%- There is a disparity in the care of Irish Children and in the caring for Children who are separated from their Parents becuase of the Asylum Process. Of That 10%- The reports say that there is an increasing use of restraints. Of that 10%- No home has been found for them Mary Rafferty in the Irish Times published an appalling indictment of the State approach to care of the most vulnerable in Irish Society. Social mobility is the amount which an individual in a given society can change their social status, or class, throughout their life. Under modern western capitalism we are told that through hard work, study and dedication we can all become wealthy and successful. Some even go so far as to say that we no longer live under a class system, as our social-status is purely the product of our own actions.
