Update 25th April: The Indymedia email server continues to be out of action which means notifications are not working and emails cannot be sent through the site contact form. We are working to get this system back in place.
We are in need of money once again to pay our website hosting bill which is due in mid April and now to cover the cost of the replacement of some hardware. We have set a target of €2000 as that is the amount needed per year to keep going. We are appealing to you the public to help out no matter how small a donation you can make.

In the closing weeks of 2006 an opinion poll in the Basque region found over 65% of people there found a return to terrorism "most likely". In the closing weeks of 2006 Spanish prime minister Zapatero said he would carry personal responsibility if the process failed. In the closing week of 2006 a french youngster was held captive whilst his father's van was hijacked & then filled with explosive & driven to Madrid's airport where it was parked on the 29th. The next day 2 Equadorian migrants went to work just as usual & didn't get out of their cars in time to avoid being the first people murdered by ETA in several years. In the last 24 hours after an awkward silence of 3 days, the minister of the Interior has said the "peace process" is "broken" & "not to be saved". ... read full story / add a comment

In the last fifteen to twenty years, two new phenomena have finally reached Ireland –Immigration and alongside it - Racism. This is not to say that we Irish never had our prejudices before the ‘blacks’ arrived, back then we were quite happy directing our bigotry and ignorance towards travellers, gays, Jews and Protestants. ... read full story / add a comment

In another vainglorious attempt to misuse electronics to exclude, the newly-erected Tánaiste intends to make it an offence of the State to be a non-EU national without good reason to be in Ireland. Non-EU nationals, including one might assume North Americans, New Zealanders and those sexy Brazilian dancers - you know, good migrants? - will be asked to prove that they have good reason to be shopping in Carroll's O'Connell Bridge. In other words, the burden of proof that one is not a ‘foreign national’ lies on the individual. ... read full story / add a comment

The Afghan hunger strike brought into sharp focus the new Ireland into which our country has been transforming over the last 10 years. Our booming economy and relatively high wage levels have drawn many thousands of immigrants into the country in search of a better life here. Much as the Irish once looked to America for the promise of a happier future, so many people from less well off countries now look to Ireland. ... read full story / add a comment
