Yesterday President Bush (the 2nd) of the USA addressed the United Nations general assembly appealing for support in Iraq, insisting the invasion was legitimate and ruling out a military withdrawl - "we must win". Shortly afterwards President Zapatero of Spain addressed the same general assembly of the UN appealing for a high level "alliance of civilisations" to stem the spread of terrorism and commit to the full development of true democratic values. read full story / add a comment

Our city … our streets … our choice … 9.30 am Bike Ride assemble City Hall, ride around city centre for about 40 minutes. Organised by Cork Environmental Forum. 11am – 1pm Bike Doctor, Emmet Place (outside Opera House) – get your bike checked out / basic repairs done for free, or just hang out with the lovely folk of the Cork Cycling Campaign, and watch the skateboarders. 6pm Critical Mass assemble Daunt Square … plus doubtless other stuff I didn’t know about. Please note, personally I’m involved in the Bike Doctor only. Just passing on the news re the other two events. The trial of Maarten Blok will take place in gothenburg this thursday and friday. he is unjustfully charged for"supposedly having hit a police officer during the EU summit in Sweden in june 2001. He was extradited from Holland to Sweden 3 weeks ago and has been sitting in prison in Gothenburg since, waiting for his trial. below follows info on solidarty actions taking place. The third annual Diversity Day festival happened yesterday at Bishop Lucey Park (aka ‘the peace park’) in Cork yesterday, the 19th of September, and was widely acclaimed as a success. There was a wide variety of acts and exhibitors, and a crowd in the hundreds lapped up the entrtainment and informative stalls provided free of charge by the participants. There were hassles with insurance and with the access to the park, but all in all it was a successful third festival. Here's hoping that Diversity Day will continue to flourish long into the future! read full story / add a comment
