Nine women obstructed doors inside raytheon plant in Derry by chaining themselves together and to the doors. They were protesting against the use of raytheon's weapons by Israel in the commission of war crimes in Gaza. On Saturday afternoon (3rd January 09) hundreds of people in Derry joined the world wide protests against Israel's attacks on Gaza by attending a protest rally in Guildhall Square. They were addressed by Derry City Councillors from SDLP and Sinn Féin, and by members of DAWC and SWP.

The Galway Alliance Against War marked the 7th anniversary of the invasion of Afghanistan yesterday, Thursday 20th November and called on the Irish government to withdraw Irish troops from this occupied country. Ireland’s involvement in this conflict does not stop at Shannon airport. Irish officers are presently working alongside NATO forces in Kabul and some of those soldiers are known to come from Galway’s Liam Mellows barracks. read full story / add a comment

This evening, the Palestine Solidarity Society in Galway University are hosting Iyad Burnat's powerful documentary on the non-violent resistance to the building of the Israeli Apartheid Wall and the building of Jews only illegal colonising "settlements" on the expropriated land of Bil'in, a small Palestinian village, 12 kilometers (7 mi) west of the city of Ramallah in the West Bank.

Iyad is the head of the Bil'in Popular Committee Against the Wall and Settlements and co-founder of the Friends of Freedom and Justice society

Fr. Bill Bischel SJ has dropped by Ireland to accompany both the Pitstop Ploughshares to court in Dublin and the raytheon 9 to court in Derry. Bill was ordained in Berlin before the wall went up, carries some of Joe Hill's ashes and has spent a number of years in jail for nonviolent resistance. Jim Keys, a member of the Foyle Ethical Investment Campaign (FEIC), was arrested on Friday after their monthly peace vigil outside raytheon’s Derry software facility. His crime? wish to proceed with willful damages charges resulting form another (our
third) exorcism at their Brisbane offices.
