Ciaran Murphy is a political singer songwriter based in Belfast who wrote the bulk of his material while a "dissident republican" prisoner between 2003 - 06. Last month an English music label pulled out of an agreed distribution deal with him due to unease at the political slant of his songs and the perceived sympathies of his small fan base. He describes himself as an 'Irish separatist' with libertarian socialist principles. Here Sean Matthews of the WSM puts questions to him on music, gigging and his political outlook. Ciaran is speaking in a personal capacity.

For those not living in Derry, it has been hard to find out what is happening in relation to the trial of the raytheon 9. The trial process is dragging on in a way that is very unfair to the defendants, their families, and the Derry Anti War Coalition (DAWC). The Nine are charged with affray and criminal damage and, if found guilty, could face long prison sentences. read full story / add a comment

The raytheon 9 are nine Derry anti-war activists who carried out a direct action against the war on Lebanon by occuping the offices of the arms manufacturer raytheon in Derry in 2006. raytheon are missiles systems company that supply the Israeli armed forces and the Lebanese people had just suffered a murderous bombardment by US-backed Israeli forces. read full story / add a comment

The raytheon 9 have gone on trial for a non-violent occupation of the raytheon office
on 9th August 2006. This occupation was carried out in the context of the Israeli attack
on Lebanon there is evidenced that raytheon Guided Bomb Units were used in this attack
on Lebanon.
