national / politics / elections / opinion/analysis Wednesday November 04, 2009 20:46 by Michael Murphy
This is a response to the SWP's reply which appeared on thier website in late August. Their material was in reply to previous Socialist Party material on the issues of left co-operation, new mass workers party and left election slates. The Socialist Party believes our reply is an accuarte assesment of the discussions that took place among groups on the left in the run in to the recent local elections and outlines our views on many of the issues facing the left. We believe there should be a left slate for the next general election and we hope our reply can assist that process. read full story / add a comment

In the first week of its release, “The Lost Revolution” shot straight into the top 5 non-fiction titles in Ireland. This in itself showed the enduring interest in the Official Republicans/The Workers’ Party. This interest was brought home to me again at the launch of the book, held in the Teachers club on September 12, which attracted an audience of around 300, including current and past members of the Official movement, as well as dozens of interested individuals from across the broad range of Republican and left groups in Ireland. read full story / add a comment

Mayday is a time of reflecting and renewing the proud tradition of working-class resistance and commitment to social revolution. The spirit of class struggle continues to burn in our class from the Visteon workplace occupations to the school occupations in Glasgow and beyond. As we continue to bear the brunt of job cuts, house evictions and police brutality, the powerful message of direct action and solidarity against the bosses and the state is as relevant and necessary as ever before. read full story / add a comment

Springtime in Europe and the Earth's life cycle is in bloom again. The 3 parts of the radio documentary capture magical moments in the recent history of one of the most exciting projects in Barcelona at present, our community garden in Gracia. This article was written after a lovely Valentine's weekend of much open, shared and participative activity, the highlight of which was our collective mural day in the garden. It is hoped that some of the life, current ideas, projects, tools, spaces, bargains, oddities, dreams, passions and goings on of the city and her peoples are communicated here-in. Friday… Thinking about winning Saturday… Painting pictures and feeling like we are winning Sunday… Sharing passions, playing and doing, remembering the South read full story / add a comment

The Labour party has overtaken Fianna Fáil in the recent TNS/MRBI poll. The first time in the history of the state. A historic moment for those interested in the wider labour movement (as opposed to the revolutionary movement olr the labour party). I am not too familiar with the methodology behind this poll but I assume it is a fair and honest reflection of the electorate at the present moment. The TNS/MRBI poll predicted the outcome of the last election with relative precision. Fianna Fáil’s satisfaction rating has plummeted to 14 percent. 62 per cent want a change of government. The support for the parties is as follows: Fianna Fáil, 22 per cent (down 5 points); Fine Gael, 32 per cent (down 2 points); Labour, 24 per cent (up 10 points); Sinn Féin, 9 per cent (up 1 point); Green Party, 4 per cent (no change); and Independents/others, 9 per cent (down 4 points). The message is simple: the electorate want Fianna Fáil out of office. read full story / add a comment

international / rights, freedoms and repression / news report Saturday August 09, 2008 11:07 by Michael Gallagher
I was on my way to the printers (to get photos printed for anti war exhibition) yesterday (Fri. Aug.8th) and came across this protest/vigil that was organised by the 'Burma Action Ireland' group. I was surprised to see this, as I had heard or read nothing about it, I was even more surprised, given the important significance of the date, 8-8-88, that it wasn't advertised in the events section on indymedia. I have my own ideas why this was, but would any of you care to comment? While I am here, I will post some of the text from the press release. read full story / add a comment |
