If you weren?t already gibbering in your boots at the prospect of devastating climate change, it's time to think again. Apparently, the movement of water from the 'melting icecaps' is slowing the rotation of the Earth.

Why has there been such silence over the landmark judgement of J Kearns in 'Horgan v. Ireland' -- Ed Horgan's case about the Constitution and helping to kill Iraqi people? Kearns had more power to stop Shannon shenanigans than any individual politician. And yet there's not a peep about it from activists campaigning against the war. read full story / add a comment

Around 20 people winded their way through the damp city streets of Belfast to convene on the grounds of City Hall & engage in the wondrous act of conversation. The occasion for such a revolutionary event? - A ‘Public Speak Out Against War’*. The event was organised by individuals involved in ‘Our Kitchen’+ as an opportunity for people to get together & share their ideas & feelings about war & explore ways in which we can take action against war. Food Not Bombs provided scrummy biscuits & sandwiches. read full story / add a comment

The idea behind the European Social Consulta (ESC) is direct participation in politics in an autonomous way. It is a project that will allow us to move forward and deepen the analysis and critique of the current system and build concrete alternatives, from the widest, most democratic and horizontal social base possible. All the different organisations involved in the European Social Consulta have one aim in common: To act against the ongoing capitalist Globalisation. The First European Gathering will take place in Madrid at the 10th and 11th of May. There the outline and content of the ESC will be decided on. There is a promoter group already working in Belfast, but if anyone is interested in building up their own local group, don't hesitate! Any individuals wanting to join in the trip to Madrid, get in touch with us. read full story / add a comment

Some of the ten activists arrested outside the City Hall on Tuesday 8th April were summonsed to court for Thursday 17th April. The next date for them to appear will be the 15th May. This will hopefully give the solicitors enough time to collect evidence like video footage or eye witness reports. We need as many people who were there as possible to help us out. Please get in touch with us via email (legal@gluaiseacht.org) snail mail (Legal Support c/o Giros, 1-5 Donegall Lane, Belfast) or give us a call 0044-7773918535 from the Republic of Ireland, 07773918535 from Northern Ireland and the UK. read full story / add a comment

400 people marched in Limerick today starting at 2pm from Penneys, up O'Connell St, down Henry St. to a rally at Arthurs Quay Park before returning to O'Connell St. where a twenty minute sit down protest took place. The rally in the park was addressed by Joe Sheehan & Katherine Harford from organisers MAMA, Cllr. John Gilligan(IND), Ron Byrne(Socialist Party), Jan O'Sullivan T.D. (Labour), Pauric Malone(Sinn Féin), Mark Deane (Youth against War), Tim Hourigan(Shannon Peace Camp) and Tracey Ryan (gluaiseacht). Not all of the speakers participated in the sit down;-) The Guards didn't interfere with the sit down which attracted first amusement and then support from the shoppers and people in town for the day who came upon it. Eoin Ó Broin SU president at UL lead "give peace a chance" at the sit in accompanied by reknowned Clare Djembe teacher John Bowker. This would get lost under the original posting due to its lenght. ================================================ After a visit to Shannon Garda Station, I have reformated this to make it comly with FORM C8 - the Garda Siochana Statement form. Just copy all of the below into word and read it. Delete anything that does not apply to your belief. e.g. if the landing of these planes does not instil fear in you, then simply delete that paragraph. print the document, fill in your name and address (I'm not sure if you actually need to fill in the rest, but your phone number would be helpful) Then bring it to a police station. DO NOT SIGN IT PRIOR to bringing it to a Garda Station as your signature and date must be witnessed by a Garda, who will then sign it and enter it in the log. This is all designed to save you read full story / add a comment

The following is a sample complaint which I have drafted which you might find useful if you belive the FF/PD complicity in Bush's war is criminal. I'm not a lawyer, but I think this should be good enough for a criminal complaint. It is based on a complaint I submitted last December which is 'still with the DPP' I will put in the long version first, to cover everything I think is relevant. Will probably stick in a less detailed summary as a COMMENT. Feel free to suggest extra pieces. If you want to take this seriously then add in any personal experience you have of witnessing these acts. If you have not actually been struck by fear at the sight of US Special Forces and their aircraft in Ireland then omit that from your complaint. If we're going to do this right, lets be serious about it. read full story / add a comment

Contrary to the disinformation being spread by some left GNAW are preparing a legal observer team for March 1st. We have a few observers already but as with every other aspect of the protest more volunteers would be useful. This is the initial call that went out for an Open Space get-together for civil society groups on the island of Ireland to discuss a proposal to create an Irish Social Forum. This proposal to create an Irish Social Forum and an Open Space with which to visualise it comes from a Report Back Meeting (which was held in Liberty Hall, Dublin) organised by some of the groups from the island of Ireland who attended the European Social Forum (ESF) held in Florence, Italy from November 6th to 10th 2002. read full story / add a comment
