Urging the G8 leaders to do more to help Africa, is like begging the same people for mercy who represent the inhuman systems. And nothing was said aloud about the origins of poverty, stopping the illegal wars or the taking of the African oil: again cheating Africa out of trillions. read full story / add a comment

galway / rights, freedoms and repression / news report Thursday June 30, 2005 22:38 by Dunlo Tom
Marking The Democratic Republic of Congo's independence day, over a hundred of Galway's Congolese and African community, along with a sprinkling of Galway activists, took to the streets today to protest against the wanton slaughter of 10 million DRC civilians this past decade, the refusal of the DRC's transitional government to hold elections and at the fact that life expectancy in their country remains at early to mid-forties. This love bomb of a protest, the singing, dancing, drumming, the pristine joie de vivre made us token "sprinklers" sheepish (all of us seasoned protest marchers), made us feel that we are only saturnine tyros when it comes to protesting - with such positive energy, perhaps, Ireland's Congolese/African community could do us all a favour by levitating the Pentagon 99 miles high before dumping it with maximum contempt into the Mindinao Trench?. read full story / add a comment

We live in an imperfect and complex world but while there is still a serious issue with global poverty, let us acknowledge, that there have been significant advances in poverty reduction, in particular in Asia, in the past quarter century. The proposed reform of the EU sugar market last week is an illustration of the complexity in arriving at solutions that can reconcile conflicting interests among developing countries and the interests of workers in rich countries. read full story / add a comment

"I'm here because it’s about time my generation actually took some action rather than watching things on TV and thinking 'isn't that awful?' " Zoe Anderson, 26, East Belfast "Sometimes it falls upon a generation to be great. You can be that great generation. Let your greatness blossom. Of course the task will not be easy. But not to do this would be a crime against humanity, against which I ask all humanity now to rise up. Make Poverty History in 2005. Make History in 2005. Then we can all stand with our heads held high.... Overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity. It is an act of justice. It is the protection of a fundamental human right, the right to dignity and a decent life. While poverty persists, there is no true freedom." Nelson Mandela read full story / add a comment

It has long been observed that on their non-banking days, people generally have more time to pursue their liberty & happiness, do their neverland things, enjoy the fruits of their labour, spend time with their family, relations, kids, friends. Some garden, some do long division sums, some protest, some even vote, some worry about themes of the day like War, Europe, Terminology, or indeed the themes of the immediate season - bird migration, global warming, Europe, War, sport or those which never go away such as Europe, War, whatever you understand by "babalon". read full story / add a comment

May Day versus McCarthy era like "Loyalty Day" opened a UN Conference against Nuclear Weapons that seemed doomed by ambiguities and lack of reportage from its very start… including vagueUS intentions towards peace contrasted by recent trends and “nuclearised” weapons that support pre emptive strikes. Meanwhile, Israel still vague about possessing nuclear weapons adds to its crimes against humanity in the Occupied Territories by dumping its waste on someone else’s homeland. read full story / add a comment

As the war drums of the Bush Administration drone into background noise, a growing number across the globe turn their eyes to the USA itself. The view becomes a prelude to the upcoming horror feature of this planets history - the Day America Turns on Herself! The Heartland of Liberty is being shaken to its very core by the growing disquiet in its People, and as the onlookers stand appalled, the very foundations of this planets concept of Liberty are eroded and turned to shifting sands of displaced freedom. As a planet, The People heard the lies told to cause War. As a Planet, The People heard the changing tales as justification to cause War. As a Planet, we stand helpless and watch the internal and deliberate destruction of the single heartplace of Liberty for all men, America. read full story / add a comment

Kabul is the capital of Afghanistan. the USA have over 16,000 troops there, under two commands, (one looks for Osama and the other is part of a build Afghani identity force) but the stability and contra-narcotraffic operations of the World community are in the hands of the ISAF force, and the majority are €uropean.
