As two countries enter the EU in 2007 are we nuturing the seeds of racial tension by opening our borders to people who wish to import their ways and culture into our society. Are we ignoring the threat of Islamic terrorism by endeavouring to be politically correct when dealing with asylum seekers, refugees and others entering this country. Is it time for change and a time to take stock of the ways in which we allow people freely enter this country? read full story / add a comment

This is just a short account, and attempted analysis, of some news stories that have arisen in the last year or so in the general area of justice and intelligence agency activity in ireland. I have tried particularly to tie some of the stories together in order to attempt to trace some of the major trends in this otherwise miscellaneous data. Unfortunately it isn't a pretty picture! read full story / add a comment

On 27th July 2006 after a trial lasting almost a month the jury in the case of Det. Sgt. John White took just under one hour to throw out the case against Mr. White. For five years Garda Sgt. White had an accusation hanging over him that he planted a sawn-off shotgun at a Travellers encampment. Charged on June 20th 2001 he had always denied the claim. As White left the courthouse in Letterkenny he told waiting reporters that many of his former colleagues let him down and the only ones who had helped were some of the uniformed members of the force. This assertion from White would seem to suggest that the Garda organisation contains an inner core, namely the Special Branch. Many within the Special Branch of the Gardai have been involved in controversy for decades. There exists within the Special Branch a culture that are prepared to lie and perjure themselves to secure convictions against any individual that they want out of the way. read full story / add a comment

The call for somebodys head to fall has always been the response of people to a national concern which seems to provide us with the satisfaction that we have rid ourselves of the cancer that caused the problem in the first place. Is it time as a nation we grew up and realised that we as the electorate are the ones responsible for the problems in society we see today? read full story / add a comment

No-one should be surprised by the actions of our Guardians Of Privilege in Baldonnel last weekend. The grumpy authoritarian ego-trippers had to do something to justify their bank holiday overtime pay and the use of the copper-copter. Cuffing a young lad, forcing him to the ground and kneeling on him because he didn’t want to piss himself – that’s really guarding the peace. It seems as though the boys in blue haven’t quite moved on from the days of former blueshirt Garda Commissioner Eoin O’ Duffy. The "few rotten apples" thesis spouted by the Garda Representatives Association (ironically acronymed GRA) isn't credible. One only has to look at the cases of the Wheelock, Mulhall, Abbeylara, McBrearty families, RTS 2002 along with the Sallins train robbery, the 'Kerry Babies' case and Shercock cases in the past as evidence of a wider, institutional and generational malaise with the Gardai. Even, Henry Grattan called the police service" an abominable institution". read full story / add a comment ![]()

Yesterday, April 23, '06, the Sunday Times ran a story about corruption in a multinational engineering company called JE Jacobs that was recently awarded the N6 roads contract in Galway. Two company members were convicted in Chicago last year of illegal bidding and trading of insider information on construction contracts. In the article the Times referred to "Jacobs’ Irish arm", (presumably for legal reasons) which is Jacobs Engineering ireland. TaraWatch has learned the new head of the NRA Fred Barry was a director with Jacobs when he was hired last year. Everybody knows the construction industry is corrupt, the archaeological profession is corrupt and of course the property development/rezoning industry is rank. Everybody knows there is more to the story as to why the M3 goes where it goes, and will not be moved unless it is forced. It is time Irish citizens put their heads together and figured this one out, before it is too late. There are already many strong indications as to who and what is involved. Lat year we all saw Tommy 'Pots 'n Pans' Reilly, the Fianna Fail by-election candidate in Meath, get pulled from the race because he had bought land with Frank Dunlop in the Tara Skryne Valley. Then there was the ireland on Sunday investigation into the owner of land at the Blundelstown interchange, Cathal McCarthy, and other 'friends of Fianna Fail', printed below. Let's start putting the pieces together. TaraWatch is beginning a 'Land Registry Fund' to do a complete serach of land ownership in the Tara Skryne Valley. But that is only the beginning. Let's do some communal research and see what we can excavate from the muck of Meath. read full story / add a comment

interview with Ciaron O'Reilly of the Catholic Worker and Pitstop Ploughshare action at Shannon Airport in February 2003. audio mp3 22mins 43 secs This weekend, ireland is the site of much parading and rhetoric about independence, sovereignty and freedom, as many commemorate the blood sacrifice of hundreds of men and women who participated in the "1916 Rising". Currently, ireland facilitates the passage of 900 US troops per day on their way to an imperial war in Iraq, and back again (sometimes in bodybags, often wounded). CIA flights through Shannon and Baldonnell airports have been documented by consciencious citizens. The Irish police harrasse and intimidate such citizens, and leave all planes (through a civilian airport in the case of Shannon), untouched or actively guard them. A majority of the people of ireland oppose the Coalition occupation of Iraq, but the Irish government they elect, prefers to sign away ireland's supposed sovereignty, to Empire. Is there any government that cannot be bought? any principle that is not for sale? read full story / add a comment |
